Prevent herpes? Dude, using a condom is a barrier to contracting Herpes. Wrapping it up prevents transmission. Is it 100 percent, no, but it's better than being an idiot who doesn't.

During and before outbreaks, simple skin contact can cause transmission. With HIV, condoms are great, very effective protection. I used a condom and still got Herpes from the juices flowing down my balls. The condom did not prevent it at all. It's just that the outbreak occurs on an unprotected area, but recurring episodes can happen anywhere else on your body. If you are unlucky you might get it in the eye ... probably the worst place of all.

I'm not arguing that mate, I stated having a condom is better than nothing at all.
