VeriSign price increase on domains

VeriSign price increase on domains

I got this email from my rep at Moniker:

...
... the price increase that Verisign has enacted. The price increase will be $2.10 over the next 4 years. The initial price increase will take place on October 15th. You can save money by registering and transferring your names now, and in an effort to facilitate this, Moniker is offering a reduction in the registration and transfer of .com and .net domain names to the prices of $6.85 for .COMs and $5.00 for .NETs! This offer is only going to be in effect until October 10th. You can also take advantage of this pricing for renewals and I recommend renewing your domains out to the 10 year limit to take advantage of this offer.
...

I am not happy about this. VeriSign is a monopolistic fucker!!

Domain registration costs at the registry level should be decreasing, not increasing. ICANN/ USDOC is an enabler; they are derelict in their duty to the public.

Oh well, at least I have a month of so to renew some domains for the max, 10 years. I suggest you all do the same here:

http://www.moniker.com

That's all for now.

I was really curious how you were going to sneak a refcode into this thread... now I know.

Many of you may not be aware of the price increase that Verisign has enacted for the .com and .net extensions. The price increase will be $2.10 over the next 4 years, which translates roughly into $0.53 per year. The initial price increase will take place on October 15th, and will be applied to all registrations, renewals, and transfers taking place after the 15th.

Although it might be a bit of a hit on the wallet or pocketbook, I recommend renewing your domains out to the 10 year limit to take advantage of this offer. If you have already paid for multiple years then you are kind of "grandfathered" in and will not have to pay the difference for those "prenewed" years. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a yell via email or ICQ!

Instead of re-writing it all I thought it would be simpler just to quote the thread I had already posted... :)

Silly question about the $6.85 COM special - if I transfer a domain name from another registrar, do I pay the $6.85 then and get the period extended for a year, or something else?

I'm currently paying $USD14 per year per domain (that's actually a bulk discount, lol) so it's almost a no brainer

I am not sure what you are are talking about, A1REK... we haven't raised our prices at all... but all registrars will need to on the 15th of October due to Verisign's price increase. Give me a yell on this if you don't mind, since I am curious as to what increase you are referring.

It's not a silly question at all :)! The answer is that if you transfer a domain from another registrar you will pay the $6.85, and a year will be added on to the current registration time that you have... so if your domain were set to expire in December of 2007, after the transfer it would set to expire in December of 2008... you don't lose any time on your registration. And yes, you are paying too much right now for your domain names. Give me a yell when you get a chance and I will help you out on this! Cheers!

GrouchyAdmin 09-13-2007 04:07 PM

I intensely hate Verisign, but come on, people, if it's going to cost you an extra $2 a year, you don't really need thirds off of the value menu twice in twelve months!
