Started a new hobby : The Art Of Tattoo [pic]

on an impulse I bought a "tattoo kit" then once I joined a good Tattoo forum ( ink-trails) I found out that most of the stuff in the kit is crap, so I started buying quality stuff, a new liner machine, etc.

I figure, why pay when you can do your own. I am learning as I go, and so is my wife. We are both artistically inclined so I said, "what the fuck?" We can tattoo each other. And when i'm done practicing on grapefruits, pig ears and fake skin, i'll tat a few friends for free too. I actually already did a small star tattoo on her ankle, I don't have a pic yet.

Anyone out there trust me to do a tat on them hehehoohoohaha :uhoh

learn from someone..i have been tattooing for 10 years.. just recently started teaching my wife.. there is so much more to it..then getting the kit, sterilization, hygiene , proper needle depth etc...
these are things only an experienced person can teach

oh, don't get me wrong. i'm just tinkering and getting in with the feel and all. if i'm seriousely going to start tattooing people I'll definitely look to intern in a shop for a while. I did a lot of research and you are right...there is a LOT more to it than people think. A lot more.

Ink-trails is an interesting forum, lot of very experienced and self taught tattoo artists on there, all willing to teach and answer questions. Not a substitute for being in a shop, but still good info.

I would have never thought of taking up tattooing as a hobby but it sounds very interesting.

Is that a Dragon on the grapefruit there Ray?

Yea, it's as deep as you want to go. Mastering an art like this can take a long time.

Congrats, it looks like fun.

But, I'll pass on the offer to be a guinea pig. LOL.

Yea, Just practicing outlining. It's really hard to get a stencil to stick on fruit so you have to free-hand to art, but they are a good inexpensive way to practice needle depth (when riding the needle) and making nice solid lines.
