do you dress properly only becuse the situation requires this?

just had an interesting talk with someone....

let's say you gonna meet with your accountant/lawyer to briefly discuss some things

do you gonna dress properly (a suit or so) because the situation requires it, or eg. because your appearence matters, eg. you get treated more seriously if you are well dressed?

or are you gonna go in whatever clothes you have on you right now, even if that means some jeans and an old t-shirt.... because you are free, you work from your own home, earn good money and if someone doesn't like how you look like, he can kiss your ass?

personally i tend to be wearing good clothes, but usually casual, not formal... but sometimes im so lazy & not caring that I have some poor clothes on me, and unless I go on a date, or on something really important for me personally, Im not gonna bother to change them because im meeting someone who comes from the offline world and is used to dealing mostly with people with suits... well if it's a lawyer and im meeing him for the first time and want to discuss something important/complicated, then i gonna dress better indeed
but not if its for the 4th time and we gonna talk only for 10 minutes

but perhaps I am wrong?

oh and it's ironic that it's an aristocrat writing this, I know :glugglug
But I really value the fredom that comes from making money on the web and I feel in a way different from all those hardworking people in the offline business world, and I don't feel I should try to get their respect by wearing proper clothes.

I don't care what the lawyer thinks about what I wear, I pay him to defend me not critique me.
I wear what I wear and thats that.

CyberHustler 09-13-2007 06:05 AM

I wear whatever I want, whenever I want... :pimp

Aristocracy is dead dude.

I dress up just so I feel more professional (and thus act it)

I agree, I do it for myself not for whomever I'm meeting with. It helps put me in a certain state of mind but it's not necessary, just helps sometimes especially if you're not in the mood.:2 cents:

anyone who understands how the worlds goes round understands the need to dress for the occasion.

I participate in a hobby which requires classy dress, if i dressed casually, i wouldnt win and it would be a bad reflection on my sport.

I recently had very long bright red hair, looked great doing modelling for fetish type shoots but when it come to my hobby, i didnt win because i looked a bit 'out there' Now im blonde with a mush shorter and stylish haircut and the change has been so dramatic! I win all the time!

But seriously, be who you want to be and do what you want to do, your lawyer is getting paid by you for a service, if he doesnt like your dress code then you can always find another lawyer :P

Violetta 09-13-2007 08:28 AM

I love to dress up and look good!

Iron Fist 09-13-2007 08:36 AM

Yup.. if its a lawyer, and i'm paying him, who cares...

If its someone and they are paying me... then I care.

JohnV 09-13-2007 08:38 AM

Of course some occasions call for specific attire, but in general I dress for me and not for what I think others want to see....

yeah of course im not gonna go in shorts to the opera on a Friday evening

but why would I dress similarly to my lawyer or accountant only to get their respect?

internet = new economy = different rules

SykkBoy 09-13-2007 08:52 AM

it really does depend on the situation, but I generally balance what I feel comfortable in with what the situation requires

MetaMan 09-13-2007 08:53 AM

Everytime i leave the house i dress to impress, because i feel much better always looking my best.

i have 3 rooms full of clothes and about 36 pairs of shoes last time i counted, there is a little insight into how much i love to get dressed up.

People in general look at you with more respect if you put time into your appearence it is norally your looks are a sign of everything else that is going on in your life.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-13-2007 09:10 AM

i wear what i want... i don't give a shit, if someone jackass thinks im a bum loser because i wear jeans and a hoodie or something, then fuck him, just means its one less person trying to become my best friend just for money...

ok I'll bite.......so tell me what hobby is this?

JamesK2 09-13-2007 09:22 AM

I dress well when it's necessary. On business parties, meetings, etc. To be honest I don't really feel well when everyone is wearing tuxedo's and shit and I'm walking around in a t-shirt with old pants.

pornguy 09-13-2007 09:23 AM

I dont wear a tie, but I dress nice. Going to dinner, unless its an expensive place, its Jeans and a polo shirt I often wear tennis shoes, but More often than not I wear loafers.

Hell no PL - tho interesting observation about lawyers and accountants - otherwise known as "suits" :winkwink:

Don't have much to do with accountants, but got three lawyers hanging around and do 1-4 legal meetings/week with one or more and sure would not dream of wasting time beautifying myself for 'em. This has nothing to do with disrespect etc - most are really friends, so what's the point?

Other aspect is... you hire professionals to do whatever job. They either do that job or depart quickly like anyone else. Never dressed up to meet with a plumber yet, so what's the difference?

Only occasion where formality applies is in court applications/appearances. It's a leftover from trying to not look like a tramp when you got immaculately dressed counsel representing you or a corp - damn em ;-)

BuggyG 09-13-2007 10:21 AM

regular lawyer and accountant.. go as ya are. well not over-do it but still go as ya are

1st couple times I guess bit better

Ross 09-13-2007 10:26 AM

I dress nice all the time wether it be for working or whatever. I have style like most European people do. I dress for the occasion. But never would I go to see my accountant wearing a suit. No point.

Juicy D. Links 09-13-2007 02:34 PM

Vick! 09-13-2007 02:41 PM

Being well dressed makes my personality more confident and dominating, and yes .. as you say, I get treated better when I am well dressed.

On first encounter, no one knows that I am an Engineer or I make tens grands a month .. all that matter are your looks and way to deal.

I have noticed very clear differences in the treatment and attention I get when I was well-dressed and was in casual trouser and old t-shirt.

Juicy D. Links 09-13-2007 02:54 PM

:disgust:disgust:disgust el bumpppp

nAtuRaLbEautY 09-13-2007 03:03 PM

i just wear all the dress i have. but of course it's vary on the situation or the place where am i going.

Miss Vanessa 09-13-2007 03:50 PM

When I dress up professionally, I feel more empowered and confident than I do in my jeans and chucks...but thats just me.

12clicks 09-14-2007 07:53 AM

Anyone who does not dress properly for the occasion is immature.
its no more complicated than that. If you want to appear immature to others, thats certainly your choice.

That said, my lawyers and accountants dress up to see me, not visa versa.

Jesper 09-14-2007 08:19 AM

I always dress proper..
