do you remember dial up?
rough times, huh? I mean, how many of us turned images off, built sites with 20kb images (max!) and such? Just think about this, GFY on dialup would take 3 or 4 days to load instead of the 4-5 mins it takes with DSL or Cable
For the kids out there, GFY is a public service to let you know what it was to have dial up: slooooooooooooooowhttp://smiliesftw.com/x/sleep.gif |
GFY will be quicker when Juicy stops posting.

I have to torture myself when ever the dsl fraps out..very painful
|
I miss the happy burbling of my old phone modem :D

Do you remember dial-up? What kind of question is that? That's like asking "Do you remember September 11th?"
|
4-5 mins to load GFY on dsl or cable???
Complain to your provider. LOL |

This was the first modem I ever used:

Everytime I load up GFY I am reminded of what dial up was like :O
|
Remember? Hell, I still remember my Hayes codes.
ATDT (dial, digital) ATPT (dial, pulse) ATLx (set volume) ATH0 (hangup) I don't think I've owned a modem in 12 years. :) |

My two slowest connects were my first portable terminal (TI executive thermal paper terminal) at 300 baud, and my school connection to the mainframe which was 45.45 (baudot, not ASCII). If you ran baudot as a teletype connection (direct terminal to terminal) you could have fun sending shift-unshift over and over, as it would actually shift the platen on the receiving machine and unshift it, like an old style typewriter, but it would do it over and over again... you could almost make the receiving end dance)...
I won't even mention punch cards or paper tape, okay? |
I downloaded redhat 4.x on dial-up... then I found some of the files were corrupted while installing... it was like 300megs on 28.8... I didn't find it much funny.
