Webmasters with kids... What do you tell them?
 

All the girls I date say they are fine with what I do in the beginning, but later on have a problem with it. Usually because they don't know what they'd tell the kids if we had them. If you have kids already, what have you or will you tell them you do?

My son is to young to ask, but we try to keep him out of the office .

You dont have to let them know much until they are old enough to understand.

Keep them out of the office and you tell them you're in internet marketing - like google and yahoo and stuff.

Never had a problem - my son 'knows' because he put 2x2 together since he's always been told he has to advise when he wants to come in the office and he can't bring his friends on this floor. Nothing bad here, just don't want it to become 'normal' to him.

I've always told my daughter that I'm in web design. However, after coming across my little book of logins, she got this crazy idea that I must be posting porn of myself on the web!!! Shocked and a little amused, I just told her that some of my work deals with companies that are adult in nature, but that no, I'm not taking photos of myself.

I figure she's still too young to know what I do. While I think she's old enough now to wrap her head around it in an intelligent manner, I don't think she's mature enough to not tell her closest friends. I know that once leaked, the information would reach other parents eventually and that could spell disaster for her. The last thing I want to do is ruin her personal life.

Just say you work on computers and musnt be disturbed...

Internet marketing

Since I work from home, I have the same issue of you can't come in while mommy is working. My son is a teen, and he knows I work with "adult" material but that's as far as it goes.

Tell them that daddy helps women with skin problems by putting a special cream on their faces.

Tell them you jerk off alot and can't be disturbed

If properly raised and educated they will have no problem dealing with it. People have this inane feeling that all things worldly must be hidden from children well sorry to burst those peoples bubbles but this is a harsh world and every animal must be able to deal with it as soon as possible, not be sheltered and weak until it smacks them in the face too hard at an older age. :2 cents:

Girls give me the same BS and I tell them the same thing I just said here, if they don't like it then I don't want to have kids with them and their cowardly immature views on child raising.

I tell everybody that I work with internet marketing as well.

Older kids know exactly what I do, my youngest will know when the time comes. They know I do adult stuff as well as mainstream and they don't have an issue with it at all simply because they know it is just "work", and 99% of it is just the same old boring stuff

Exactly. It's the only thing my son knows about my work. And actually... it's true, because I'm really in the Internet marketing :)

Why do you call it "lie"? I believe the adult online business IS internet marketing. And why can't you tell your parents your working with adult-related content? My own parents know that I'm doing, and I don't feel any shame for that. For example, my Internet provider has an IP TV service which includes 1 erotic and 4 hardcore porn channels. However I doubt the guys who work there feel any shame to say: "I'm working in one of the biggest Russian Internet providing corporation and yes, we're providing XXX content to our customers"

Both of my boys knew what I did from about the age of 12, now they're 19 & 16, and the 19 yo is working for me part time, while he goes to college.

My kids are still blissfully ignorant of what I do...they just know I work with computers and do some design and programming

I tell my son I design websites. HE is only 6

Yeah I tell my kids the same "internet marketing", but I go to expo's and conventions alot overseas, and they ask if I work on the internet, how come I have to go away all the time? :(

I dont let my kids in the office, I have a 6 yr old and a 12 yr old, the 12 yr old constantly comes busting into the office, he meets an asshole when he does. :)

My daughter is in the navy, she tells everyone that her dad works for Playboy, it make her popular!

I tell them I work for Santa ;)

I always told my kids I made money by putting ads on websites.

Usually anyone that asks, I say "internet marketing."

I'll tell them I work for a Design company!:)
