Russia tests powerful 'dad of all bombs'

Wow now look what our neighbours have come up with, this is getting scary now

Cyber Fucker 09-12-2007 10:54 AM

that is a quite big boom

Tom_PM 09-12-2007 11:02 AM

"Unlike a nuclear weapon, the bomb doesn't hurt the environment, he added."

lol, had to laugh at that one.

tranza 09-12-2007 11:02 AM

Yeah, I saw that news a couple of hours ago.... Pretty impressive and scary at the same time...

Violetta 09-12-2007 11:05 AM

scary indeed! :(

After Shock Media 09-12-2007 11:05 AM

Yippie a new arms race.

We will upgrade our mother of all bombs and make the the god bomb or something shortly after we um obtain that special explosive assuming we do not have it already and then tie it in with our sat navigation and the like.

You know what they mean, as in no radiation and so forth.

Just the shockwave and then the super high temp, burning of the oxygen and of course the vacuum it causes that suck people and objects into the expanding fireball.

Brother Bilo 09-12-2007 11:10 AM

Great. It makes sense though. We don't have enough going on in the world to scare the shit out of everyone, why not throw Russia back into the mix?

Fuck

halfpint 09-12-2007 11:38 AM

I like this part "protect the nation's security and confront international terrorism in any situation and any region."

pornguy 09-12-2007 11:50 AM

Wonder how long it will take to get some real stats on the bomb

Martin 09-12-2007 11:52 AM

They're just sending a message to the US, don't fuck with us! Just like Iran is doing and really, who can blame them.

Brother Bilo 09-12-2007 11:56 AM

Of course, everything that is, has or will happen in the world is Bush's fault.

Could it also be that Russia was just tired of nobody giving them respect and they figured that this is as good a reason as any to get back into the game? Of course that can't be the reason, then Bush can't be to blame anymore. We'll stick with all of yours instead.

I saw the video yesterday on Russian news channel "ORT". They said the radius of guaranteed annihilation is 300 meters (i.e. 282 square kilometers). Sounds really impressive.

halfpint 09-12-2007 12:01 PM

Could this be the reason they keep flying their bombers into our airspace

Last month, President Vladimir Putin said he ordered the resumption of regular patrols of strategic bombers, which were suspended after the 1991 Soviet breakup

I think The USA had better hurry up and install that anti nuke missile istallation in Poland because if they decide to get nasty with the UK we are totaly fucked

Scarlet Sparklecream 09-12-2007 12:04 PM

It's just a consequence of bad translation. Actually he said the bomb won't pollute the environment (no radioactive, chemical etc pollution will be caused) :2 cents:

Dollarmansteve 09-12-2007 12:07 PM

equivalent to 44 tons of TNT.

The little man uranium A-bomb that levelled hiroshima was equivalent to 11,000 tons (250x more powerful).

This bomb is 4 times more pwerful than the MOAB that the US has, I don't know why everyone is gettin all uppity :P It's good for blowin up caves and small underground bases.

Absolutely correct.

uhhh.. area of a circle = pi * r^2..

soo.. r = 300m

Soo.. 3.14 * (300)^2 = 282600 square metres.

or equivalent to a square with sides of 531.6m in length. 531.6m = 0.5316km or 0.2826 square kms.

or just use the proper unit of 0.3 km as the initial value for r.

Yes, that's absolutely correct. I meant the same - 282600 square meters. And yes there is a mistake in my post above - 282600 square meters is not equal to 282,600 square kilometers. Because there is 1,000,000 square meters in 1 square kilometer. So the size of annihilation area is 0,282 square kilometers.

just a punk 09-12-2007 12:26 PM

oops double post.

ya 282 sq km made it sound waaaay scarier than it actually is, lol

The trouble with these kind of bombs is they are cheap to produce compared to a nuke or atom bomb so these type of bombs can end up in all kinds of countries, plus the fact that when they are used in enclosed places with buildings it amplifies the shock waves.

Well they have to be air dropped. the GBU-43 M.O.A.B. for example has to be delivered by a modified C-130 cargo plane. The bomb itself weighs over 10 tons (21,000 lbs). It is 30 feet long and 40 inches in diameter.

I don't think you need to worry about some terrorist putting one of these in a back pack and causing shit.

The method of delivery alone makes any conventional non-missile type weapon not much of an actual threat.

Yeah I aggree with you I wasent actually thinking of a terrorist carrying it around or trying to launch it from a missile laucher, I was kinda thinking along the lines of a country like Iran/Syria and the likes of getting hold of them

bronco67 09-12-2007 01:09 PM

Is the US supposed to laugh at this?

True, I guess they could fuck up Israel or something.. but even then, a couple fighter jet interceptors could take out a cargo plane before it even crossed their own border..

Personally I think this should be viewed as another publicity stunt by Russia.. at least they didn't use footage from Titanic this time.

Depends on what exactly you consider "your airspace".

Read that news better. Russian bombers won't patrol foreign airspace. They have to patrol neutral zones NEAR NATO countries, but not ABOVE them. Is any Russian bomber would cross your border it would be shoot down and no one here will blame your country for that. :2 cents:

Those "anti nuke missile" installations have no danger to Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles. The Russian government is much more worried about the radars in East Europe because (they (the radars) will be able to track Russian airspace up to Urals), but not about "anti nuke" defense units which are unable to shoot down even outdated ballistic missiles.
