Programming PHP
 

There is a new PHP book by one of the original designers of the scripting language itself.

It would be a great way for some of you - specifically those who have yet to venture into dynamic web design - to get a grasp on the elements of PHP fundamentals.

THis begs the question, do any of you have any interesting projects going on? I'm talking PHP and MySQL based.

I'd be interested in collaborating on some PHP-based adult projects. Or, alternatively, if you have an idea to improve some aspect of traditional adult web design - or are convinced there must be a better way to do things then plain ol' STATIC pages...HIT ME UP ON ICQ.

I would suggest getting this book if you know programming , just not PHP. If you are a newbie to PHP, I would suggest checking out like DevShed, or PHPBuilder, or similiar introductions to php, or Im sure php.net has an intro. For some people php is a bit too much at times, so start slow doing simple include stuff and be comfortable with the small stuff and then move on.

Projects Im currently working on:
1) MySQL web-based frontend with each column sortable ascending or descending, simple edit functions, and a simple insert function, also detects emails, urls, etc. and links them appropriately.Building it for folks who need to modify/view a database , but dont feel comfortbale with phpMyAdmin. Auto detects pretty much everything so all the user needs to know is the dbname, dbusername, dbpassword, also gives the end user the ability to modify the properties of the page such as color, fonts, table border, etc. all from an easy config area.

2) A web based database driven TGP 'helper' script. Creates the galleries and links and recips up to the proper tgp based upon fields you set for each tgp, such as how often to submit, how many banners, etc. Its still pretty early , very little code written yet.

3) From scratch custom complete AVS system. Not for public release so I will spare the details.

Always have smaller projects going on 24-7.

why waste time with books when you can log onto EFNet and speak to the creators of PHP live.

exactly what i was gonna say :)

who really needs that even, when you have php.net!

i feel comfortable with php.net also, but when i started off, i loved to use some books. actually, i started with this guy's (sitepoint) tutorial that you have to buy as i book now. pretty cool to use books with good project-tutorials.

watch out that you're not buying a book containing of a copy of the php-manual.
