Anyone here drink Vitamin Water?

I got curious about Vitamin water so I checked out the ingredients

I saw this shit called Crystalline Fructose and was like WTF?

fun stuff, let me tell you

Quote:

Crystalline fructose is produced by allowing the fructose to crystallize from a fructose-enriched corn syrup. The term "crystalline fructose" is listed in the ingredient statements of foods and beverages using this corn sweetener. It is important to understand that the "crystalline fructose" listed as an ingredient comes from cornstarch, not fruit. It has also been speculated that crystalline fructose can have an overall negative effect on your liver if digested over the period of years.
and what is it made of? (check out #2)

Quote:

Composition of Crystalline fructose:[1]
Fructose ≥ 98.0% and £ 102.0%, after drying
Arsenic ≥ 1 mg/kg
Chloride ≥ 0.018%
Glucose ≥ 0.5%
Heavy metals (as Pb) ≤ 5 mg/kg
Hydroxymethylfurfural ≤ 0.1%, dry basis
Lead ≤ 0.1 mg/kg
Loss on drying ≤ 0.5%
Residue on ignition ≤ 0.5%
Sulfate ≤ 0.025%
crazy, they say this stuff is actually WORSE for you than High Fructose Corn Syrup

and it is in a HEALTH FOOD DRINK

LOL

Yeah ive always heard that vitamin water isnt that great for you. I drink a product called Immune Fizz, you add it to your own water, i really notice a difference with that. Only prob is unless you live in Seattle you can only get it from Costco or online

Damn it you had to tell. I figured this out some time ago and have been avoiding stuff containing it (mostly health foods). Hoping it would knock off some more hippies before it was outed.

ROFL...the ironic part is that here where I live there are a LOT of hippies, and naturally we became friends with quite a few of them, and they turned on us to it...haha

now I have to print this shit out and take it to them cause god forbid hippies get a real job that affords them internet so I would be able to email it to them haha

That emergen-c stuff is sweetened with fructose too, by the way

the key I think is to cut down on the sweet tooth and learn to drink things that are very very lightly sweetened, preferably naturally

this stuff is awesome:

there is nothing unusual about the data you presented. you are needlessly scaring yourself. the levels of arsenic and lead are almost nonexistent. i am sure there are higher levels of both arsenic and lead in your drinking water. and furthermore, simply breathing the air in atlanta will have a far greater health toll than consuming Crystalline Fructose over your lifetime.

lol the coke you drink probably has exactly the same arsenic levels etc

the basic thing is you are getting zero nutrition out of drinking coke, it's a chemical mixture that hardly resembles anything naturally food like that one would want to be putting into their body

geeknik 09-12-2007 05:51 AM

That's why I don't drink shit like that.

not scared at all, I ingest toxic shit all the time, I just get sick of companies throwing all this crap into our "health food" products...if you are going to tout your products as being healthy, at least use healthy ingredients

and considering I don't actually live in Atlanta i doubt it about our water being unhealthy, I saw our water tests from the water company in our little town and we have some of the cleanest drinking waters in georgia, not to mention our PUR filter filters most of that out if the water company didn't already get it

Quote:

NRDC analyzed data compiled by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on arsenic in drinking water in 25 states. Our most conservative estimates based on the data indicate that more than 34 million Americans drink tap water supplied by systems containing average levels of arsenic that pose unacceptable cancer risks. We consider it likely that as many as 56 million people in those 25 states have been drinking water with arsenic at unsafe levels -- and that's just the 25 states that reported arsenic information to the EPA.

I don't drink or eat anything for health reasons, I just find it absurd that someone can market a health food drink and it contain shit like this

i can't believe you all don't think that is crazy, but this is gfy after all, for every reasonable there has to be 5 or 6 people to come in and defend or fight about that reasonable reaction..LOL

Jace 09-12-2007 05:59 AM

damn, gfy is fucked up, made a grammar error above and by the time gfy loaded it was too late to edit...sorry

regardless of who like to fight on gfy or not, it is crazy that people market a health food product and don't use healthy ingredients in it

mistergardener 09-12-2007 07:21 AM

To hell with those health drinks. Coke still rocks.

Peaches 09-12-2007 07:44 AM

I don't recall Vitamin Water ever being marketed as "healthy". A quick look at the nutritional level kept me from ever buying the first bottle. It's basically different flavored Gatorade with a few herbs and/or vitamins tossed in. The amount of actual vitamins is minimal.
