Silverchair - Straight Lines

Anyone hear Silverchair's new song STRAIGHT LINES? Quite a band/sound transition they made. They are now mature and accomplished songwriters. In their 15 years as a band, I don't think they've ever had a hit here in the US until now.

_mC_ 09-11-2007 09:00 PM

I like the first couple tunes they put out... nothing since. I'll give it a shot, but I'm not optimistic.

Wasnt their first album huge here, when they were very very young?

I don't like their early stuff either. I did like grunge at that time in the early 90s though. If you like catchy pop songs, there's a good chance you'll like "Straight Lines." I really like the video as well. It's nice to see a song like this from a band that writes thier own music and plays their own instruments too. An artist with "flesh and blood" as Bono would say.

I really don't remember them at all in the early 90s. It's possible.

Darkhorse 09-11-2007 09:35 PM

I remember going and seeing these guys when they were first starting out here, they played at a local resort here to like maybe 200 people it was and still is one best concerts I have been to.

Come on, you know what I mean. I just worded it wrong. Half the artists you see on MTV can't play an instrument.

Looks like they jumped from the grunge bandwagon to the Coldplay bandwagon

They were 15 year olds here in Australia https://youtube.com/watch?v=heQi0...elated&search= was big here not sure about the USA

Martha_WildCash 09-11-2007 11:50 PM

first time i heard this one.

i have their older albums (up to neon ballroom) ----- on cassette :Oh crap

they should be pretty popular anywhere cause weren't they considered kind of a prodigy at that time since they were so young and they ACTUALLY MAKE their own songs and they were touring around the world with their moms?

im still trying to decide if i like this new one ... but i love silverchair :upsidedow

BlueDesignStudios 09-12-2007 03:41 AM

they're a great band and that's a great tune :)

Violetta 09-12-2007 04:14 AM

Their last (?) album "Diorama" is my favourite album. Havent heard anything of them since, but this Straigth lines song is awsome! Gotta get the new album. Been a fan of them since their first album!

Yes, Tomorrow was HUGE in the USA. I'm still convinced that song is about a blowjob.

Dirty F 09-12-2007 04:47 AM

I saw them 2 weeks ago. It was pretty nice but their previous tour was WAAAAY fucking better. Their concert 2 years ago was simply amazing. Now the new tour, new songs, new show is nice but nothing more.

Glad you liked it! YouTube quality sucks though. The video loses so much when you watch these videos on youtube. I had watched it on digital satellite tv first.

Drake 09-12-2007 02:07 PM

It's a very good pop rock tune for sure

Juicy D. Links 09-12-2007 02:39 PM

StickyGreen 09-12-2007 02:41 PM

Silverchair? lol is it 1994 again or something?

M0nk 09-12-2007 02:45 PM

I loved their two first albums...the rest...it just sounds like another band!

Matt 26z 09-12-2007 02:54 PM

The Frogstomp and Freak Show albums were pretty big in the US. Then grunge died and took a lot of bands with it. They did pop back up with one song, In The Year 2000. Haven't heard anything of them since.

They have had 2 other singles out in Australia since that one. It was number one here for a while :2 cents:

mattz 09-12-2007 05:04 PM

Makes me feel gay when I listen to that

Spunky 09-12-2007 05:06 PM

I liked their old tunes much better

potter 09-12-2007 05:35 PM

That song fucking sucks gay monkey ass. Way to ruin my image of silverchair. I'm going to listen to their old shit now to hopefully bring it back.

Nismo 09-12-2007 05:35 PM

Frogstomp had a couple hits here in the USA, "Tomorrow" and "israels son" back in 1996/1997. They had a couple hits back in 2000/2001 also, but that was the last they really had anything in the USA.

From what I heard very recently, their new shit sucks and they were much better writers/performers when they were younger. It's like their talent faded. Again, this is just what i've heard.

It was relased as a single in Australia in March. Here in the US it didn't come out until the summer. It's a new song.

Okay, so each time a great band like Green Day, U2, etc. reinvents themselves they should change their band name? I mean, they still sound like Silverchair when they play live. Check this out: Straight Lines - LIVE.

Manowar 09-16-2007 03:37 PM

i need to import the album i have from them into itunes, damn i'd forgotten about that band

Then show me proof. If you look up the release dates for the song on amazon and elsewhere, that's what it says. Why else would it be #3 on the VH-1 Top 20 Countdown? Either way, it's a new song. Any song relased this year is a new song. I never said "brand spanking new." I said "new."

Good to see some sane people in this thread, that fucking song is horrible. it's like something you would hear on american idol or something. what happened to real rock music?

I'm not really surprised some of you don't like it. Anything that isn't loud or has heavy distortion in it, is such a terrible thing to some of you. I see these typical comments on youtube all the time. Good thing they have the thumbs up/down option now, so that I don't always have to see the absolutely piteous comments. Not every opinion holds value.
