Six years later??

Six years later??

And I am saddened to see how far we have regressed. I am not a cynical person I believe out of every tragedy there is an awakening a rebirth of sorts but I have given up on the hope that anything positive will ever come from the horrible events that happened on that dark day in September six years ago.

My heart still weeps for those who lost there lives and for those who lost the people who they loved the most that day. ?We the People? the first line of The Declaration of Independents and after the towers fell and the dust settled those words held so much more for me to watch us come together as one nation as one voice. I watch the brave men an women as they risked everything to help in the efforts to rescue those who could be saved not for glory not for personal gain. The did it because it was them trapped in that building its you trapped in that building it was me trapped in that building we were truly one with each other that day.

Was I angry that day YES, am I still angry YES, but in the day?s weeks and months following I had new feelings hope and pride. I was Proud to call myself and American. I was proud that a plane full of strangers came together to stand up for what we all believe in. I was proud that we were able as a nation that the trivial things like race, social class, and religion were finally put aside and we were ready to face the future as one. Hope I had hope for our future. I had hope that we would hold on to those feelings and we could become a nation of one that the pot had finally melted that those lines that have separated us for centuries would not just fade but disappear. I had hope that we would once again share the values of those who came together to write those words ?We The People?.

So here it is six years later and those lines that separated us have not faded but become bolder. The racial tensions are high. The Religious right has taken over the media. Our freedoms are being ripped from us daily. Murder is legal if you can afford the right lawyer. Freedom of Speech? as long as you don?t cross any lines of what any group can be construed as being politically incorrect.

Do I still have hope yes but my hopes have changed. I hope that were figure this out on our own and it doesn?t take another tragedy to bring us together. I hope the next time I go to judge somebody I can recall those feelings I had of unity and instead offer that person a smile. I hope that some one can do the same for me. I hope that it is not to late.

I will end with something I wrote a long long time ago.

The hardest part of freedom is allowing some else theirs
