So my grandmother in-law forwards me this email...
 

I asked her a long time ago to stop forwarding every dumb email with jokes, religious things, heart-warming things... She got the point - I haven't gotten an email from her all year long. Then, today I get this forwarded to me (evidently she thought this was important enough to share):

I'm reading this thinking that in general it's a relatively true statement about how people treat one another. Personally, I can't relate to ever walking down the street and calling me whitey, cracker, honkey, whitey or caveman. Personally, I think that'd probably make me giggle, but I don't live in a ghetto. I also can't say that I throw names out about other people, all the ones below are racist epitahs (sp) that I don't throw around cause I think they're dirty.

You say that whites commit a lot
of violence against you,
so why are the ghettos the most
dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.
You Have Yom Hashoah.
You have the NAACP.
And you have BET.

If we had WET
(White Entertainment Television)
... We'd be racists.

If we had a White Pride Day
... You would call us racists.

If we had White History Month
... We'd be racists.

If we had any organization for only whites
to "advance" OUR lives
... We'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,
a Black Chamber of Commerce,
and then we just have the plain
Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that?

If we had a college fund that only gave
white students scholarships
... You know we'd be racists.

There are over 60 openly-proclaimed
Black-only Colleges in the < B>US ,
yet if there were "White-only Colleges"
... THAT would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March,
you believed that you were
marching for your race and rights.
If we marched for our race and rights,

You are proud to be black,
brown, yellow and orange,
and you're not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our white pride

I guess you ought to ask your grandmother in law to start sending and/or forwarding e-mails again Brad.

To me its all very simple: groups of people who have 'pride events', or memory days or whatever you want to call it i.e. remembering the holocaust, martin luther king day, or even gay pride parade just means that every and each of these groups had to fight their way up somehow to be seen equal in front of a majority (mostly white). These days, events are just to remember how fucking low we used to be as a society to judge who should be slaved, killed or seen like a lower 'specie', and that this should never be the same again. I respect a group who has suffered in their history and are now seen as equal.

White people have their history/pride days and moments as well; its not because we havent been as persecuted that we dont have that. I think most ppl tend to see that as 'whining' more then remembering and being proud.

Calling someone 'whitey' doesnt imply that he/she's been into slavery and therefore isnt exactly a lack of respect. The person is white, its a fact. If you call a Black person N*gger, you imply the old slavery language that they used to endure and that's a lack of respect.

when you're locked up (and I know cause I have been) it's ok to be racist. in fact, you'd BETTER be racist or you're gonna be fucked.

human nature - ppl are different and we notice the differences. to pretend we're all "color-blind" is a joke.

I agree that white folks haven't had to deal with the same shit that other races have here in America, but I don't think it's fair to favor all of them now. Perfect example are scholorships. When I was in school, I went to the financial aid office to look at the scholorships available and found that out of the entire wall of posted scholorships, I was eligible for 5.

How is that fair? I won't go so far as to say that it's almost a reverse racism thing, but it's definetely skewed towards that direction. So what it seems like to me is that because these races were discriminated agaisn't in the past, somehow, that means I have to pay for it. I've never had a slave, or a plantation, so how am I responsible for what happened?

Nope, even acknowledging that I received it would be encouraging her. Based on my experience, backwoods christians don't like rich people or homosexuals either.... and everyone not going to THEIR church is going to hell.

Its an ongoing debate, but at the end of the days its asking non-white people why they can get away with shit we can't.

I could understand the whole African American thing because of slavery and civil rights in our countries history.. but I can think of any negative aspect we have had on mexicans, asians, etc.

The problem lies in that "white" Americans are asking non whites why we cant do this instead of just doing it and not caring, just as non whites would do.

I personally wouldn't want to belong to any group that is affiliated by skin color and think 99&#37; of them are pretty pathetic.

"white" isn't really a race... I guess in that sense, neither is "black."

What I mean is, I'm Irish. If I started an Irish heritage group or something, I don't think anyone would care. My best friend belongs to a Czech organization. As far as I'm aware, no one has ever called him or his family racists. There are "white" groups, etc, they just aren't called "white."

Those darkies are just as racist as everybody else,if not more
