9/11/2001 - What were you doing when the Twin Towers were attacked?
 

I was sleeping. My buddy called me up to turn onthe news about the attack, CNN had it on.

I remember rushing to work, being in a daze, watching it all unfold on CNN, being angry, and in shock.

RIP to all the victims of 9/11/2001. From the Twin Towers, to Afghanistan, to Iraq.

I was at the dentist office, it was a very painful moment (literally) as the dentist was constantly paying attention to the tv.

I was still asleep.

i was in high school at the time, i remember sitting in class senior year listening to announcements one moment then having people running into our classrooms to let us know something had happend, more then a few students had parents who worked at the trade center, most of us left school to see what happend or to console friends.

our town is maybe 5 miles outside of the city and from one of the higher hills a group of us watched in shock as the buildings smoked and then disappeared into the skyline.

it was a really horrific site, and a day in my life that i will never forget.

I was watching sesame street with my son.
Every day we watched childrens programming together.
For some reason, that day I told him, Ok.. mommy wants to see some adult programming and I flipped the chan. and all I saw was the one tower on fire. Then the second plane hit. I just sat there on the floor with him in awe until the towers fell.

I went and woke up my man and I said to him.. Ya know the world trade towers in ny, and in his sleepy daze he said, yeah.. and I said, They are gone.

Such a sad, sad day that I will never forget. :(

I was on AIM chatting with my friend. All of a sudden he tells me, "America is under attack." I turned on the TV and was shocked at what I saw.

I also remember that day, big parts of the internet went down because of power outages in New York.

Stop being a fucking prick.

I was in the UK, waiting for my wife to arrive back from a shoot. We were both going to get in the car, goto the airport and fly to Tampa...
All was going to plan, and then I turned on the TV...
HOLY FUCK...

A few mins later my wife calls me up, tottally unaware of what had happened, and said, 'You ready? I'll be back in ten mins... Make sure you have all the camera stuff packed and ready to go... I dont want us to miss the Tampa flight...'

And just as she says this, on TV the tower comes down...

I'm like... Take your time love... We aint going nowhere today....

lol i was actually reading cnn.com before it happened. then the page refreshed...

i remember at one point during the morning cnn.com server load was so high the server timedout, timed out, timed out.

then it went back online with five text sentences on a white background, left justified.

I was right here and started the first thread (Sjayne is my old nick). I was sitting here listening to the radio and learning German via about.com. The Radio made a report about a 'light aircraft' hitting the WTC. So, I turned straight over to the news and say the second plane..I posted in between the first and second plane.

Then I tried to contact my family which was hard. Turned out my sister was on the road not far from where the plane went down in PA as she was going to college in that area.

Then I sent online messages to all my friends to turn on their tvs..it was odd getting repsonses as they woke up across the time zones in the States. A very bonding day in some ways.

I wasn't trying to be a prick - I was simply pointing out that you started an almost verbatim thread that was already on the front page, which I thought was inconsiderate.

Also, I didn't call you any names...only assholes do that. :upsidedow

I was at work.

I was studyin for my Math exam.

It started like any other morning for me. I got up, put the coffee on, took the dog out, came in and checked some stuff online. Then I opened up GFY and everything changed.... saw Sarah's thread and immediately went and turned on CNN.

I made several phone calls to friends in the US, calls to my family here, and then later in the day came back on the board to post about the day's events.

I was just getting up. We only had a 13inc tv, largely because we dont watch tv. Did not know it had happened until I called the Jewlery store we were supposed to pick our wedding rings up at that same morning. They guy told me that were closing, and I asked why. He said. Turn on your tv.

Just woke up and was taking a shit, the weird shit people were saying on the radio in the bathroom caught my attention. Pretty much finished real quick stormed downstairs and turned on the tv. Didn't matter what channel it was, every fucking channel had it covered. Called a couple friends and we all hung out glued to the TV.

I had just gotten off a plane in Vegas about 4 hours before, and the person I was staying with woke me up and said "I think you are going to want to see this".

I was outside building a big garage for my friend's cars. The next door neighbor came out and said some idiot just flew a plane into a building in NYC. I said you mean like a jet? He said no like a Cessna. I figured it was pilot error.

About an hour later I went to have lunch at my sister's house and when I walked in she had that look of fear on her face and all she could do was point to the TV. I sat down and began to realize what was happening and watched in disbelief as the towers came down.

I'd always felt like the United Sates of America was untouchable. That wars were fought in other countries. That we were safe. On theat day at that moment, I learned something new.

I awoke and went online, oblivious to what was happening. As I popped on ICQ, my buddy Kenny B! hit me up and asked if I was ok. I responded, "Yeah dude... I'm fine. Why?"

He replied, and I'll never forget this, "Your country is under attack".

I was like, "Yeah dude... whatever." That's when he told me to turn on the tv and I saw what was happening.

No sooner had I flipped on the tv, had the second plane hit. Like all of you, I was glued to the tv in awe at what was unfolding.

I was in high school still in between periods walking down to my next class which was the TV Studio and my friend told me "Yo Raul a plane just flew into the Twin Towers"................I thought he was joking and sure enough he wasn't...I will never forget the way I felt...Something that changed history and gave me a whole new outlook in that living in the USA is a not to be taken lightly. Especially when people like Bin Laden are trying to kill people.

I had gotten up and logged on to Voltar's newbie webmaster board and saw a post from Cleo saying that they were saying a plane had hit one of the twin towers. Turned on the tv and watched the tv with barely a bathroom break until 4 or 5am the next morning.

I was at my day job,the day just started, we watched the second tower online at the bbc. It was a very scary day and the guy who did it is still coming out with videos.

I was at home and I couldn't stop watching it....

i was in panama developing a site for a bestbuy like store and was the first time i saw google crash.

I was talking to Twinkley on ICQ and loaded CNN.com and they had a breaking news alert at the top of the page that said a "small" plane had hit one of the towers. If only that was all it was.

I had just gotten back from walking my son to the bus stop and put on a pot of coffee, tuned into CNN about the time the second tower collapsed...it was almost like i was watching a movie of something...it didn't quite sink inn for a few minutes what I had just seen until the anchor broke down

I then hit the boards and seemed to get more updates there than watching CNN...although there were a lot of rumors and speculation as well...

I was in Aruba celebrating my 2yr wedding Anniversary, we went out the night before and got trashed we fell asleep with the TV on, Lisa woke me up and pointed at the TV, I thought it was a movie or something for a minute than changed to CNN and saw it was in fact real.

I remember seeing the 2nd plane fly in and saying to Lisa that it looked like another plane was heading for it, and 2 seconds later it was confirmed. I can remember just wanting to get back to the US so I could get back to my daughter, it sucked we couldnt get out of there till like 4 days later.

I was at the library.

I was shooting some pussy .. when Gino (my production assistant, whom had just set up a satelite so that we can watch boxing) came in and told me I had to see this .. Damn it was surreal !

I was in bed sleeping when my sister called me and told me to turn on the t.v.

The financial world stopped in Toronto and we were trying to find out if we lost anyone in our NY office :(

this was on a tuesday I remember and mi sister had a flight to the US on friday, and was all cancelled and my sister was so pissed

I was home watching TV.

wife was on an early morning conference call. I had just woken up.. flipped on the TV and there it was...

Their conference call was forgotten in about 30 seconds and rescheduled.. everyone went straight to the TVs and the web.

We watched the whole thing unfold.

My wife travelled a fair amount in those days... scared the hell out of us for a bit.

I was waiting for the moving vans to take our stuff to Brooklyn. Needless to say we didn't move that day. We moved 2 days later but what should have taken 2-3 hours took 7 because of all the security check points.

I was sleeping. When I got up it was all over the TV and I was in shock. Just could not believe it was happening.

I was sleeping too. My son called, I turned the TV on and told him I was on my way to SC to get him. I just knew we were all going to be attacked.

Since we have an ex-higher up politician with a home here, the secret service agents were swarming the place - he wasn't here but I'm assuming some of his family was.

Then I started getting calls from my family in ATL making sure they had a place to stay with me since we have our own local water/power/phone supplies ;)

One of my best friends is an FA for AA so after calling family, I called to make sure she wasn't on any of the flights.

Then, like everyone else, I sat glued to the TV.

Still just surreal watching the towers fall. :(

i used to live right around there! matter of fact, that was where i was living when the september 11 attacks took place..

i was a big time night owl at that time of my life, so i was definitely sleeping. my bedroom was upstairs, and i woke up to my sister screaming to me from the bottom of the stairs to get up and come downstairs right away. i had no idea what to expect, i thought she was hurt or the house was on fire or something, from the urgency in her voice.

i got downstairs and see her sitting in a chair just watching tv. i started to get a little ticked that she had woken me up and told her that i was going back to bed. she insisted that i look at the tv long enough to figure out what they were saying and i was instantly in horror. i didn't feel tired at all anymore and i stayed up the rest of the morning glued to the tv until i had to go into work in the afternoon.
