Why did 9/11 happen?
 

Six years later we can look back at 9/11 with some perspective. What, in your opinion, was the primary reason that it occurred?

I voted for "other". However it's too long to explain "why". In a few fords: Osama is a Former CIA agent, so he was "created" by the US government. We have a good saying here: "Don't feed a snake!"

Are you trying to say that Osama was hating "your freedom" when he planned 9/11? He was a very rich man and he was absolutely free - I bet he had much more freedom than you can even imagine for yourself. Believe me - the reason of 9/11 was a way different and it's not related so somebody's "freedom".

My thought is that they attacked because they are resisting the spread of the western world. They don't like that McDonalds or KFC or any number of corporate businesses are moving in and they would rather live like they're still in biblical times. The fact that we aren't Muslim is a big deal too, but I think the overall reason is that they don't want to advance with the rest of the world. They would rather live in mud huts and trade spices or whatever.

Because we have troops in their holy land.

Not true at all. It was our foreign policy that caused them to hate us. Remember that we had nice relations with the Middle East many years back. Heck, Muslims fought in WW2 and were vital in helping France. They didn't have a problem with us helping out Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion and parts of the Middle East didn't mind us supporting Saddam against Iran.

The reason 9/11 happened is due to our foreign policy. We butted our head into the Middle East too much over the years that it simply pissed off a lot of people. And I don't just blame us either, many of the extreme Muslims are just fucking nutjobs. But not much different from the same fucking nutjobs that ruled Europe throughout the ages when they killed non-Catholics.

So the answer is 2, 3, and 5.

Whilst i 100% agree with you, they took it to a whole new level. The true answer to the poll is actually "because they are seriously fucked up" and i would guess that all answers play a part. Apart from the conspiracy, if thats true (and i dont know) then thats obviously different. If it was OSB the nothing the USA or her allies like my country (UK) did can justify 9/11 and we must kick their ass, whatever else we do, we have to kick their ass. And right now we are not. And that should make us all angry with our leaders.

On a side note, im very proud that the UK stood besides the USA. I guess when it happened America learnt who her true friend was.

Most of the problems we're having now are blowback from decisions that were made during the cold war, when we propped up ruthless dictators across the globe because they were willing to side with us rather than the Soviets.

So does intent come into play here at all for you? I realize that some of those missles did miss their mark and civilians did die, but the intent was not to harm civilians, in fact it was the exact opposite of that.

Their intent was to purposely kill as many civilians as possible while taking out their intended target.

How are those on the same plane of morality?

I voted "Jihadists want to destroy the non-muslim world", but the "Anti-Arab foreign policy of the U.S/U.S. support of Israel" certainly played it's role in creating so much hate against the US as well.

As we see now, countries who didn't participate in the war in iraq are targetted by terrorists as well, so noone in any western oriented country can really feel safe, because those fanatics think only muslims have a right to live, everybody else is "unworthy".

On the other hand, I strongly believe that wealth and economic growth, especially in palestina, syria and iran can effectively fight any political extremists...if people have enough food, a place to live and basic human rights, they'll care for their own lives and give a fuck on what some fundamentalists tell them. We can't win by wars or any military force, because weapons won't ever change people's minds !

Pretty much sums it up.. but "we" can't leave them alone since we need the oil and can't let Russia or China etc. etc. etc. have control over it. All the world powers "play" over there because of it. If there was no oil, no one would give a shit as can be seen in so many parts of Africa etc.

It was about vanity and 250 wealthy people. Lead by a bunch of other wealthy individuals. pushing their ideals (often violently) on others not as fortunate as them for centuries, in the name of freedom.

Usually it's in the name of religion, not freedom. Freedom is still a reletively new concept for most of the world.
