Well the WTC buildings were hit early in the day when hardly anyone was inside.
I read that 40,000 people are normally inside the towers, but the planes hit at the start of the day, before most people arrived.

From a terrorist point of view, it would have made a lot more sense to hit the WTC buildings in the middle of the day when it was full.

If there was a secret deal to let it happen, then hitting the towers in the morning would make sense.
Least amount of people die, and the government has a reason to mess around in the Middle East.

But I don't believe that. Most likely what happened was the US government got reports of this attack (there is proof of this)
but thought it was bullshit, so they didn't take the warnings serious.

The Government would and has been willing to devestate the lives of people to better its interest. Think about it. 1) The nation just had come out of a Presidential election that had the world wondering .."Did this president really get elected by the people?" 2) The nation was in a economic down turn facing.

In order to combat something of this magnitutde you need something of greater or equal "stun power" to get everyones attention. I believe that the US government knew about the attacks and allowed them to happen in order to 1) increase money towards a low turnout in the military, 2) find fuel for Iraq and other laws that the intelligence community had been eager to pass and 3) Focus the nation on other things other than The presidential nominations.

The idea that the American goverment "caused" the terrorist acts on 9/11 is absurd; and it's absurd whether you think they hired guys to get in the planes and do it, or whether our foreign policy is some kind of excuse for it.

Now ... did Bush back off on terrorism as a priority of his administration until the events of 9/11? Was the Reverent Attorney General getting ready to set a different set of priorities? He rejected an FBI request for antiterrorism funding in the days just before the attack. That wouldn't have mattered about this attack, but it kind of shows where his head was at.
