Should I think BIG or stay small?

Should I think BIG (aim for a site with lots of partners and 1,000,000 images/files) or stay small with 1 or 2 sites and 50,000 images/files?

Big or small?

After Shock Media 09-09-2007 01:14 AM

However keep this in mind.

There are pros and cons to everything and depends on the specifics of a business plan.

The usual throwaway cliche of being "big" is often the first aim for noobs, - whether there are is any qualifications, cred, finance or not - but reality can be different.

Cuteshooter 09-09-2007 01:40 AM

I've been doing this for awhile and have some modest skills. Something tells me that as long as I stay small in all my other projects it might be ok to aim high with just one of them.

I asked myself the same question yesterday... and then realized "Big" would mean surgery.

So I'll just stay small.

lol.

Want to be wealthy? Think big. Want to just make a safe living? Then you can consider thinking small.

GreyWolf 09-09-2007 01:42 PM

Believe me - "big" does not necessarily translate to being "wealthy" :)

Again - depends on whatever sphere of this biz you are working in - sometimes it may need to be big to be economically viable. Sometimes a one-man band plays a very profitable tune. Other times there is a happy medium in the middle with a number of staff.

Been at all ends of the scale in this biz, and spent time as a solo programmer, operated companies with 10-50 people and larger operations with around 1000 staff. The larger it is - it takes you away from what you thought you wanted to do - and this is replaced with being a "manager" on a daily basis.

Bottom line, you can earn the same "wealth" by working smarter - it does not necessarily mean "big" :thumbsup

OK, I'm gonna think BIG for my newest project. Now I gotta get some growth hormone for it...

tony286 09-10-2007 10:07 AM

I think its better to have short term and long term goals. A 30 day ,60 day,90 day ,120 day and first year goal. Then a 5 yr and 10 yr goal.

peterk 09-10-2007 10:15 AM

Always think BIG and you will be big :thumbsup

Small - keep your expectations low and you won't set yourself up for dissapointment when it works out well.

good luck

boudoir 01-02-2009 08:38 PM

I got an email telling me that I can get bigger with a simple pill. I'm not buying it.

The question is too general.

Think small and wide.
