Want to Build my own SUPER PC, any good websites????

I know basics but any good sites for reading?

Also any good sites for motherboards and such? ie: newegg and such?

just built my girlfriend a rediculous workstation for CAD (she's an architect), for under $1700 off newegg incl. monitor. can't really beat that website.

People from Falcon Northwest [falcon-nw.com] make the best damn PCs ever. If you still wanna build it yourself, you can at least look at their specs.

Newegg is definitely the site to order from. The customer reviews that they have can come in really handy as well.

A lot of knowledgeable people comment there. For instance, when I ordered my video card, from newegg a little over a year ago, I was stuck between a couple different choices. Thanks to the reviews I picked an inexpensive card that was able to have it's bios flashed to open up extra pixel pipelines, effectively making it the next model, or two, up. Even found the website info to download the flash utility from there. The shit actually worked too, first try, and only took about 5 minutes total.

Newegg > *

What kind of specs? I need a new computer and can't decide whether to try building or just buy one from Dell. The Dell box I was looking at was $2000.

xxweekxx 09-08-2007 03:03 PM

Yo im in NJ ill build one for you and u can come pick it up..

i love building pcs for fun so ill hook you up for free..

Here's my specs.

DUAL 8800GTX SLI Cards
24" LG LCD
4GB DDr2-800 RAM
500GB Hdisk X 2
Evga 680i SLI mobo
E6850 CPU overclocked @ 3.75ghz
DVD Writer
ANtec 900 Case with side fan

I bought all of em from newegg.... Whats your budget like?

Lonny 09-08-2007 03:04 PM

you may want to add http://www.pricewatch.com/ to your list of stores.

EddiePulp 09-08-2007 03:10 PM

u don't want 1 super computer..

you want three or four decent computers hooked up to KVM.. that way if something fucks up u've got redundancy. use 2 computers for applications and 1 as a server for backups etc.

Intel mobo's
2gb+ RAM
2 x 320gb HDD (RAID1), maybe 3 x 500gb (RAID5) HDD for server
AMD Dual core processors (64bit).

You should be able to build each pc for not much more than $500 each

EddiePulp 09-08-2007 03:13 PM

when i was livin in canada.. i bought a few pc's from http://www.anitec.ca/

If you are just looking for one or two pieces of hardware, pricewatch isn't bad. Although, a lot of the sites listed there seem kinda shady looking. But ordering a whole system's worth of parts, best to just use one site, so it all gets to you at the same time.

_Rush_ 09-08-2007 04:18 PM

TigerDirect.com is also pretty good, although I only use NewEgg.com.

Argoz 09-08-2007 04:38 PM

I have been ordering off there for 7+ years and NEVER had a bad deal or gotten ripped off

crockett 09-08-2007 04:52 PM

go to newegg's forums. You can look around there and see what others are building.

ztik 09-08-2007 05:05 PM

Don't use price watch. I purchased a few CPU's from there that were really cheap. They ended up being demo pulls, I had to have my lawyer mediate the sitution to get my money back.

These were CPU's that cost about $1500 each. It turns out they got them free from intel as samples. Fuckers..

i just got hard

fris 09-08-2007 07:26 PM

im gonna get the e6850

TwinCities 09-08-2007 07:48 PM

Juicy, seriously, do you like fucking around putting machines together or are you just looking for something powerful? If you just want something top of the line that can run a variety of multiple OS's then I would stop fucking around and just get a MacPro as Argoz stated. You get the power, simplicity, and ease of use of Tiger and upcoming Leopard as well as setting up virtual machines with VMWare to install a multitude of other OS's if you wish.

i was looking at the Mac actually , and the power looks amazing.

But i initially wanted to do this as a project and such and say "i made this" and so on , kinda like a hobby :)
