i wouldn't buy from dell. bought a 3 year warranty and then a year later find out they didn't give me the 3 year warranty and my order info isn't on their system, how convenient.

shoulda paid less money for the IBM like i was going to.

We just purchased an IBM ThinkPad,
including a year of on site service. The rep was great. He didn't try to sell me something I didn't need.

We had a Sony for about a week. Didn't like it much.

So far, the IBM, which is fairly light weight, although not under 4 lbs. has done very well. We are pleased.

Why is the weight important? You will pay about 500 more for a laptop with those features than something a little heavier. Mine is 7.8 lbs, with a 50 dollar 802b card extra. Amd Athlon 1.4, Cd-RW/DVD, 256 ram. but, if you are going to be carrying it, and using it on your lap, weight is important. Mine sits on tables. :)

BJ 09-11-2002 08:29 PM

you can surf gfy with a pda, Ill give a demonstration shohahahay

Plat 09-11-2002 08:36 PM

i bought one off ebay

met the guy in a city near by to give him the cash.

turns out its stolen from a local public school in his area lol

oh well wont be my fault if i get caught with it.

got half off the final price after i asked him if it was stolen, suprised he admitted to it being stolen... well that was after i looked at who windows was registered under :p

EBAY!

I have a desktop to do most critical work, just need something to type do a lilttle c++ nothing major etc. 1 gig is plenty. And I will be carrying it around all day which is why weight is important to me

foe 09-12-2002 08:13 PM

thanks all for answers leaning towards sony alhtough dont know since it doesnt have wireless built in

gothweb 09-12-2002 08:31 PM

Want a nice inexpensive laptop, lightweight, good design, smooth operation? How about one from the people who pioneered 802.11b, with integrated antennae right in the casing? Then dude, you're getting an... iBook I absolutely love mine.

GTS Mark 09-12-2002 08:40 PM

I picked up a Compaq Presario 700 which has 1.1 gig duron processor, 256 ram, 20 gig hd, DVD, wireless optical mouse, case etc....

Only cost $850 US, I bought it off a guy who only had it for 2 months and never used it. Gotta love those deals!

:)

Are any of you using 802.11b wireless networking? I don't know if I bought a cheap router or what, but the performance isn't close to what I expected. It works fine inside the house, but if you want to use it outside it doesn't work well at all. Anyone having similar experience?
