How many people died this summer because of the heatwave? And how old was the highest temperature record which was broken this summer? :winkwink:

FYI, I'm freezing my ass off too right now. :)

royaljelly2 09-06-2007 11:17 AM

Most people that died of heat were old people that left home without a bottle of water and they didn't have much to live either way.

I wish I'd be dying of heat right now.

That doesn't change the fact that they would've had a bigger chance to still be alive, had it not been for the record heatwave.

Thing is, this has always happened be it record temperatures or not.
The media made more fuzz about it this time. (with no manipulative interests ofcourse :) )

well obviously, according to global warming theorists everything that
happens is because of global warming.

D 09-06-2007 11:45 AM

Day to day temperature changes have very little to do with "global warming" :2 cents:

How long have we been keeping records of temperatures? How many days of the year are there? How many different cities are there on this planet?

There will continue to be records set both cold and warm every year in different areas of the world for a long time to come. Don't get too excited.

Brother Bilo 09-06-2007 11:46 AM

Shit, AZ had a record of 30 days in a row over 110 degrees.....nobody died. People that die in heatwaves are just weak from something else, it's natural selection.

Has more to do with increase in obesity than carbon dioxide levels.

Actually, me and darksoul happen to be referring to record temperatures in one specific geographical area, something you had no way of knowing before you made the above comment.

D 09-06-2007 11:56 AM

BTW, it's relatively easy to separate the informed individuals from the people who blunder about in these threads.

For the uninformed: pretty much no one in the scientific community is arguing "global warming" as anything less than a fact.

The cause for debate on the subject is more to answer the question: "why is it warming?"

That's my point. There will always be a geographic area with a record because there are so many days that there could be a record on and so many different geographic areas to record for. Plus we have only kept record for about 100 years.

After Shock Media 09-06-2007 04:26 PM

If people stoped calling it global warming and called it global climate change it would make things a whole lot easier. As it will not warm up every area, micro climates will change, other places will get colder and so forth.

Hell fuck it im sick of this argument here on gfy. Even if you do not think its true just save yourself some money and swap some bulbs and buy more energy efficient shit.

BINGO!!!

If you actually took the time to study the predictions they show a rapid cooling in Europe is possible because of the Greenland Ice Pack melt.

peterk 09-06-2007 07:25 PM

shekinah 09-06-2007 07:41 PM

Air pollution is constantly being poured into the air. Trees and vegetation are constantly being cut down and cleared. Do you honestly believe that this would not have any impact on the natural cycles of the planet?

In the 1950's cigarettes were also claimed to be safe and not to cause cancer.
Quote:

In January 1954, US tobacco manufacturers jointly sponsored an advocacy advertisement entitled "A Frank Statement to Cigarette Smokers" which appeared in 448 newspapers in 258 cities reaching an estimated 43 245 000 Americans. The advertisement questioned research findings implicating smoking as a cause of cancer, promised consumers that their cigarettes were safe, and pledged to support impartial research to investigate allegations that smoking was harmful to human health.

The tobacco companies had a lot of the public fooled back then. Now, the oil companies are fooling a lot of the public as well.
