Relax inside with my Bahamas vacation pics
A few weeks ago I took a working vacation when I was asked to photograph a friend's wedding in the Abacos. All expenses paid and my gift to them was my photography. There were eight people in our group and we spent 3 hours on the wedding and the rest of our seven day stay fishing, snorkling, surfing and drinking. Here's a few pics from a great trip to Guana Cay in the Bahamas.
Our rental house had five bedrooms, two kitchens and plenty of room to move about. It was on the beach in a perfect location on the Island http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/01.jpg http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/02.jpg The house had a balcony all the way around it with an awesome panoramic view http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/07.jpg Here's what the view looked like to the left http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/08.jpg Here's what we saw to the right http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/09.jpg The sand had a wonderful color and texture to it and even looked a little pinkish in color http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/10.jpg Believe it or not Guana Cay gets some great surf and everyone in our group was a surfer so we came prepared just in case. Here's a surf check at one spot using the Islands main mode of transportation, a golf cart. http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/12.jpg Hurricane Dean went the wrong way but we still managed to find something ridable and the best man rode the best wave of the trip http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/13.jpg If it's rough we go surfing and if it's calm we go fishing and we caught some beauties off the beach right behind the house http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/15.jpg http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/17.jpg Hermit crabs were everywhere and they are comical to watch as they make their way to where ever they think they need to go http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/18.jpg One was lucky enought to catch a ride http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/19.jpg We rented a boat and went snorkling off Bakers Bay looking for Lobster. We didn't find any but the reef was breathtaking with all the fish and live coral http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/22.jpg While we got skunked on the Lobster we did manage to score enough from a local to have a nice dinner back at the house http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/24.jpg After dinner it was time to watch the sunset and every twist and turn of the island offered a beautiful view http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/27.jpg After sunset we would take the cart over to " Nippers " which was a cool little beach bar and slam some Nippers Juice which was some special concoction made from five different Rums and stuff. After about four you would feel like you're floating. It was out of season for the tourists so we had the place to ourselves left to fight off the amorous advances from the locals. http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/31.jpg Usually on a trip like this I try and bring a model to take advatage of the beautiful location but the girls were too insecure and banned me from bringing a friend. If I did bring one I would have taken some pictures like this http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/p...acos/julie.jpg That's what our trip to the Bahamas was like. Now one more look and then it's back to work:) http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/26.jpg |

With the bahamas located just off Florida's east coast they pretty much get the same weather and temps as Florida so when Florida gets a cold front so does the bahamas and when Florida's frying so is the Bahamas. The bugs were really bad this time and it took a good stiff breeze to make them go away. It's much better in the winter time. |
Here's a few more
The shallow reef was full of interesting things to see and someone was always pointing at something http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/40.jpg The ocean was so inviting you felt like it wanted to eat you up! http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/11.jpg Big or small the houses were very cool with plenty of space between neighbors. http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/05.jpg These two palms looked like the perfect place to hang a hammock, kick back and chill. http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/28.jpg |

There is a feeling of complete freedom and you could discretely get naked on the beach or smoke some weed without hassle. One of our group, the guy surfing in the picures, lived on the Island for over two years and worked as a bartender at Nippers so he was well aware of the Island lifestyle. I was completely comfortable leaving my camera bag with about ten grand worth of stuff in it by the front door and leaving the door unlocked while we went fishing. By comparison when I go to Costa Rica I never let go of my camera bag and even use it for a pillow when I sleep. Now that's just for this Island we were on. I was told that on some of the other Islands like Nassau and Freeport it's a completely different story with crime being a big problem and you have to be really cautious. There's two ways to experience the Bahamas. One is the bigger Islands with the crowds, crime and casinos with a view of the pretty water and the other is going to one of the smaller outer Islands with just a few really nice people, nice locals, empty beaches and just enjoy all the bahamas has to offer. http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/04.jpg http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/20.jpg http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/promo/abacos/14.jpg |

Everyone in the group paid for themselves except me. I worked my part off by taking pictures and video of not only the wedding ceremony but the entire trip and will be giving the pictures for prints and a DVD of the trip. It's on expensive side going to the Bahamas and it's one of those places where everything costs more not less. House for the week: $3,500 Golf cart rental didn't ask but not cheap. Flight from Ft. lauderdale: $ 280 Ferry ride from Island: $20 Boat rental for day: $200 Only two nice restaurants: dinner $50 per one small grocery store: 50% markup on everything Drinks not too bad. It's much cheaper to bring a bottle than buy one |
amazing pics dude
i have to get down there someday |
Great pics man.
