Remote desktop question
Anyone here know if you have to change your TCP/IP settings to match the computer you are trying to access if you are NOT on the local area network?
I was able to successfully set up remote desktop between two machines that are on the same network. But now we're trying to set one up from a machine that is 10 miles away. We keep getting "the client could not connect to the remote computer. remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. it is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. please try connecting again later. if the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator." error message Anyone have experience doing that? |
hmmm, I used to connect to a friend of mine PC (he was in England, I was in South Africa) with remote desktop, as far as I remember we didn't have to change any TCP/IP settings but we had to change some of his router settings so I could gain access

firewall?
|
firewall is on with an exception of remote desktop.
His work computer goes though a router, then to the cable modem. His home machine is on a wireless connection. |
We only host a few Windows servers, so I have very limited experience with remote desktops, but I thought there was a setting that allowed or denied specific IP's.

Bump for the guy on the other side of 10 miles. ;)

Is port 3389 open on that machine?

that's odd. That's the IP I get when I look up ipconfig on my machine. That should get you right into my computer. But wait, how do I hide all my bank info? I want to block that stuff first.
|
dude, what the fuck kind of device are you using on your end?
