looks like fun

That looks like fun. I really miss surfing and bodyboarding in Hawaii-- but ten foot? C'mon.

I Hawaii, they measure the wave from the back(so when they say 10 feet it's actually 20).

In most of Cali, they measure it from the front. On the east coast (and Malibu), they measure it from the front and add 5 feet.

Just messin with ya...

Yea they were sets 10-12' faces (cali sets) & this was on a "flat" beach, I bet there were 8' Hawaii waves up at county line.

baddog 09-04-2007 01:57 PM

hard to tell with those pics, but they don't look like 10' to me . . . maybe 6 or 7' tops.

I was taught that you measure from the top of the flat water to the top of the wave, so judging by second pic.

I am jealous. I need some beach time. I have not paddled out since the Costa Rica Bash.

Miss Munki 09-04-2007 02:56 PM

It was a nice day for the beach, it's been hot in SoCal lately:)

Then those would be 3 to 4.5 max.
those are small.

TheAmericanCannibal 09-04-2007 03:01 PM

Those are what we former North County San Diegan's call " scrotum slappers"
BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

KILL_FRENZY 09-04-2007 03:02 PM

that kind of waves are good for surfing ?

bDok 09-04-2007 03:05 PM

seriously those waves are not 10 foot cali waves. Those are 3 foot tops. That dude is at the bottom of the wave ducking and still is pretty much taller than the wave. I was out in north county san diego this whole weekend and the sets I would say topped out at 4 foot.

nice pics and it was a great day for sure... but 10 foot they are not.

draude 09-04-2007 03:08 PM

thehand 09-04-2007 03:44 PM

I guess i'm wrong, but they looked bigger in person.... maybe because I go there allot & there is never surf there.

mistergardener 09-04-2007 03:46 PM

Many people think that if they are standing in the water and they are 6' and the wave is 6' over them the surf is 12' tall. That isn't the case.

In the above scenario, if the water came up to your neck, the surf would be about 7'

Spunky 09-04-2007 05:19 PM

Nice..those waves would be a lot of fun

GAMEFINEST 09-04-2007 05:19 PM

I'm guessing the three waves depicted in the above pictures were the only three waves the whole day, yea?
