Observation About Thievery In The Adult Industry...............

I read boards time and again and some things strike me as Odd

First of all I read this thread:

fucking-around-and-business-discussion/752299-5000-reasons-steal-someones-wallet-time-low-people.html - It is about a wallet that has been stolen from someone inside the adult industry.
It had $1000 in.

If you are not interested so far, please hit your "back button"

File Sharing Sites are doing the exact same thing to your BOTTOM LINE. If you think that $1000 is a big loss and you are a big affiliate. You are LOSING a lot more than $1000.

Torrent sites included.

You cry and whine over $1000 bucks and the thread reaches a whole 10+ pages. Yet when there is a torrent thread, many people in that thread could not care less about people stealing money from them. They go oh well its the future.

Wrong - The Future is what YOU make it.

NET THEFT IS JUST AS DAMAGING AS REAL THEFT, YOUR BOTTOM LINE IS AFFECTED

If you get mad over $1000 being stolen physically, SHOULD YOU NOT BE MAD at $10000 being stolen from you VIRTUALLY?

I would like to see more people stand up and SAY NO and stop defending content theft and find more ways to stop this.

IT IS YOUR MONEY THAT IS BEING STOLEN

People say it is a new low that a wallet was stolen, yet they do not blink an eyelid that hundreds of thousands of dollars are being stolen from the industry every day.
BONKERS MAD
Thankyou for your time.

Those big letters are seriously annoying. Also, I agree with you. But people are going to find more ways to pirate music and porn. It's just a fact.

polish_aristocrat 09-02-2007 09:58 AM

well, you stole the nickname from Dirty Franck...

Jace 09-02-2007 10:00 AM

DaddyHalbucks 09-02-2007 10:04 AM

Agreed. Adult needs to wakeup and form an association to battle it.

Situation is that thread got so big because the accuser screwed up.

Lots webmasters have or do steal music, games, films and think it's acceptable.

The problem has very little to do with stolen content, it's about lost sign ups.

CYBERAY 09-02-2007 10:46 AM

yes big fonts

Just because somebody illegally downloads copyright material doesn't neccesarily mean they would have otherwise bought it.

Oh come off it. Theives theive because they want stuff for free. Even if you price porn at $1 for tonnes of it, they would still go for the free option.

aaron 09-02-2007 11:13 AM

oops... hehe

allofzen 09-02-2007 11:15 AM

In life, no one is 100% honest... everyone has stolen something at some point in there life :2 cents:

I would agree that many of the people stealing do it as part of their culture, that's the point I was trying to make. Sorry if I did not make it clear.

If you can't see how you sell it and make it attractive to buy I suggest you start investing a LOT of money in going after the thieves. And the moment you close them down thay will be buying content.

Content accounts for 10% of a sites cost, approx, if you think they can give it away only because they steal it you should join the other deluded fools.

If you stole it and adopted the present "affiliate" you could have $27.00 a month memberships.

The future is going to be different, even if you spend millions shutting down Torrent sites.

I'm afraid it is if you're the one they are stealing from. It's a different value, but it's still theft. Thank you for showing us what I was driving at. Theft is theft and wrong, using a loop hole in the law to make it not illegal is fine. Advertising with someone who uses that loop hole in an industry you do business with is morally wrong.

jakethedog 09-02-2007 11:33 AM

I have to agree ...as an owner .. theft is killing all of us .. it has always existed and it always will .. the problem is not easy to solve and obviously not endorsing the torrent sites is not going to effect them ..news Groups ..P2P and Torrent sites will be around until there is some sort of global internet police ..which will never happen .. best you can to is copyright ..right click protect ... possibly drm .. and really just take legal action religiously against anyone you catch stealing trading or infringing on your legally owned content ..sitting crying about it isn't going to solve anything ..

Yes it is, it really is! Thats one of the points I am trying to bring across, these torrents are not small dollars. They are costing us hundreds of thousands of dollars per day!
You get a car stolen once in 5 years, so what you have lost $40,000.
You get your content stolen every day of the year for 5 years. I can bet you anything it is worth more than your car.

Huggles 09-02-2007 11:40 AM

lol

Content theft is probably people I used to know who bought porn, now share rapidshare accounts and just right click and save as full nastydollars/topbucks/TCG episodes without sending those companies a dime... and 50+ people share that account, LOL!

Paul Markham 09-02-2007 11:54 AM

Unless you can completely close down all the sites stealing content, you have no options if you want to stay in business. You have to win back the customers.

Closing them down is a nice dream, but what if they started to buy content. Am I not allowed to sell to them to support others or will others buy from me to stop me selling to ex thieves?

Content is very cheap because sponsors forced down prices. You might shut down all the sites stealing, but then they would simply buy and sell for 25 cents a movie. 1000 sales at 25 cents = $250. Try to close them down and they will sue you.

Keep kidding yourself the problem is stolen content. :1orglaugh

Now tell me the people looking at the stolen content would not buy 25 cents scenes but would buy $30 memberships. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

There is nothing stopping any paysites from selling movies at $0.25 right now. If those people want to buy content and sell it for dirt cheap, that is their choice. They would need extremely cheap content to make that work and the profits would be miniscule. Just seems like a whole lot of work on their part for little reward.

Perhaps, but not always.... Remember when Napster was huge, everyone was using it to download music, every computer newb that hardly knew where to find the on switch to their laptop was taught by a friend how to get to napster, and the site was full of good stuff.

They got shut down, others came along to replace it, but it did make a huge difference in shutting them down... many people that would be using napster for free now are buying iTunes $20 music cards at safeway and such.

Going the other way and just ignoring the rip-off sites is just giving up and that is not the way to go... pressure should always be there to clean things up.
