"Piracy" is the wrong name for "Content Theft"

By giving the name of "piracy" to the theft of our content, we are glamorizing the actions of the thieves.

Content theft is not the swashbuckling, free-wheeling, romanticized face-to-face conflict for swag on the high seas of the pirates of yore as "piracy" connotates.

It is the cowardly sneak thief, stealing the food from your families' tables, ripping of your hard work, and pickpocketing your wallet.

Don't give these people any glory, credit, or credibility.

Call a ripoff thief a "Thief" and treat them as such.

I have always wondered why the term Piracy was used.

dont copy that floppy

Copyright infringement isn't "theft" either, in the legal sense of the word (at least in the US), but it sure feels like they're stealing something when it affects your bottom line. I prefer the term "ripoff" (but not "ripoff artist" since art is way too nice a term) or "lazy cock-gobbling shit-eating no-talent copying coward fuck."

I disagree.

If you call it "content theft" it sort of sounds like a two bit crime. Call it Priacy and it drastically increases the value of the crime.

Redrob 09-01-2007 12:42 AM

How about "Thief"?

He said THIEF. Did you even read what he wrote?

content theft doesnt take skill unlike software and game piracy, software and game piracy the pirates have to be one ahead of new protection on stuff, content its just download, upload, nothing else..

Redrob 09-01-2007 01:33 PM

Do we make our content too easy to steal?

What would happen if we went to a no "free" explicit content best practice?

Just wondering.....:2 cents:

"User Generated and Submitted content" - aka: "Let your users violate copyright for you" - aka: "Making money off of stolen shit".

being a fence just means you didn't actually break in, you outsourced it to people dumber and more desperate... but it still makes you a thief.

Piracy is nothing glamorous in my book.

Pirate = Thief

They are the same thing.
