Alexa is fucking worthless and inaccurate
Period.
Why anyone still pays any attention to this skewed "tool" is way beyond me. :321GFY |
and this is something you just figured out? I knew this in 1999
|
I know, the reality is, I have the #1 site in the world. www.pitfuck.com

Hi guys
I actually never cared about Alexa.., because I never believed them from long time ago.., I do my own findings and do my own status check.. so its pretty simple for me. Kevin |

its not accurate, but I use it a lot when I am setting up trades, it happens a lot when someone asks for a 200/hour force when they have a alexa rank of 1 million.... in these cases I try to keep an eye on the trade and most of the times they don't even send 10 hits per hour (some cases they just started up and they are feeding traffic, thats all good)
something that really messes up alexa ranking is galleries. some gallerysubmitter may have a fucking high rank because of all the galleries on his domain while his mainpage, sometimes a tgp, has no traffic at all |
i agree with nylos, i use it for trades mainly, if someone says they have certain traffic, and their alexa rank is 1-2 million, i wont even bother
|
Inaccurate: Yes.
Worthless: No, not by a long shot. |
depends upon what your using it for
|
It's a "get a general idea" tool... nothing to be taken seriously but it is info.
|
it's inaccurate but not worthless
|
I find it pretty helpful
|
It's not worthless, but should definitely be taken with a grain of salt.
And yet a number of people in this biz still base purchasing decisions solely on Alexa. go figure... |
It reflects our site's trends pretty fucking accurately.
|
Yeah mean, Alexa is more trouble than it's worth....
I found a pretty interesting discussion on a mainstream SEO board about Alexa... not posting it here since it's to another board, but basically to sum up: Everyone there too thought Alexa was a joke, too easily manipulated and basically worthless. |
Yeah Alexa is more general than anything. To the real webmasters alexa is stupid but for sites like Megarotic and Youporn.com they try to charge you and arm an a leg to advertise because of their "alexa ratings" even though their sites are full of stolen content.
I hate stealing mofo's!! |
Its not as inaccurate as you are saying. If its so inaccurate, can you make a website ranked in top10 with zero real traffic?
It doesn't accurately measures traffic, but still worth a lot when it comes to general trend of a web site. Are you having hard time to gain better alexa and loosing some advertisers? |
Painfully I agree, inaccurate but since people do look at it useful for arranging sales and trades. Our ranking dropped considerably when our staff moved to Macs since their is no Alexa toolbar for the Mac, tells you how easy it is to influence
|
I see it as a vague thermometer.
|
it is ok ...not something to use all the time
|
It can give you a pretty good general idea if you look at all the numbers. Most people just look at the daily reach graph and ignore everything else. The page views per user can scew the numbers a lot.
|
What other options are more accurate?
I agree, Alexa is far from accurate, but at least gives you a ballpark idea.
Just wondering if anyone uses anything else that seems a bit more accurate. |
