I made it through the first step of the Google interview process :)
 

The next step is the engineering panel interview on-site. I've been brushing up on my bubblesorts, so hopefully I stick this one too.

Sample question: off the top of your head, what's 2 to the 12th power.

When I did my interview, all they asked is "Do you play D & D?"

How that's job relevent, I'm not sure. I'm assuming I'd be working on a PC with a calculator app.

That would of been a trick question, as the correct answer would be no I play AD&D.

Without knowing the job description I think it might be a test to see if you can do simple math in your head.

I haven't done "powers" since 1970 but was able to do that in my head with a little help from my fingers.

Is there a formula for those? I forget.

come on dude, 2^12 is not even remotely a hard question...
any idiot knows that 2^8=256, and then 2^12 is just 2^(8+4) or (2^8)*(2^4)=or 256*2*2*2*2

My point was that I'm used to being asked questions about high level systems architecture, not something that can be done with a calculator.
