Question For Anyone Who Has Been To The Grand Canyon

We are heading back over to Vegas next month, and this time we wanna make sure we do the whole Grand Canyon experience this time.

Thew few times i've been to Vegas before i've always been too busy with the shows etc, but this is the first time i am going for an actual vacation with the gf.

For anyone who's been, where did you book the trip ? Should we wait untill we get to Vegas ? And what about availability ?

Definitely want to do the Skywalk aswell http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/

so would need to choose the trip which covers this.

Thanks for any help... :thumbsup

I would book a helicopter tour. We did this a few years ago and it was great. Don't remember which company is was though.

I would love to do the skywalk.... the best part? My mother-in-law would never go on it!! She was scared to death of the glass floor in the CN Tower.

Oh heavenly bliss as I walk where she dare not follow!! :glugglug

helicopter tour is worth it.... we took the trip to havasupai falls... not the cheapest route.. but amazing. They have 4 or 5 different choices you can take.

Where do you book it though ? In Vegas ??

I'm supposed to go in a couple of months, I can't wait to check it out

Do the helicopter tour. They have an option to land and go on a horseback ride. i did it....it was cool. Every hotel in Vegas has info in the rooms on tours....or ask the hotel to hook it up. You can wait until you are out there...

Have fun......

Everytime I went to the canyon I stayed in Williams, AZ. I believe it's about an hour away. Nice little town, with route 66 still running thru it.

If you feel energetic you may want to hike down the side of the canyon. If i remember correctly its about an 18 mile round trip and can be done in a long day. I found it to be a great experience even though i was exhausted by the time i reached the rim

We booked it in Vegas. Called in the morning and left two hours later. I don't know if we were lucky but it's probably no problem in general to get a tour if you book a couple of days in advance.

Hi.

We did this last time during the Vegas Show.

ITS A MUST.....

We did one of those here
http://www.maverickhelicopter.com/lasvegas.html

Landed 2-3 times in the middle of nowhere, had a picknick with champagne.
Was awesome. We had super music over the headphones. Like the "Ride of the Valkyries".
Flying low through the canyon.......

Really try it, but book ahead ;-)

I haven't been but know a few peeps that have.

Hiking's fun and rewarding but exhausting.. .and once down you gotta get back up... and it's hot - damn hot... and stepping over donkey droppings on narrow ledges seems to be something you do regularly.... but it builds character.

Donkeys work, but there's a weight restriction, and you have to book them weeks or months in advance.

Skywalk sounds cool... but for $75 a head - no cameras on the walkway (meh) - I dunno. Seems kinda ridiculous... just a tourist trap. People in the know that go say you "haven't seen the real grand canyon."

The Helicopter Ride with Horses sounds like the best experience I've heard - short of the hike.

I lived in Arizona so we did the Grand Canyon a few times. We always made a day trip out of it. After a few mintues to me it's just a big hole in the ground.

I thought Bryce Cayon was much "prettier".

My first trip to the Grand Canyon started on a rainy morning. The lightning was very impressive. By the time we got to the Grand Canyon, the rain had stopped, but there were still lots of clouds.

We pulled up to the rim of the canyon, and looked down. The visibility wasn't great, since there was much fog in the canyon, but we were nonetheless impressed.

As we sat there taking it all in. the fog started breaking up. Suddenly, it was clear just how big and epic the Grand Canyon is. We proceeded to drive around, stopping to ohhhh and awwww frequently.

The highlights of the trip were a helicopter ride, and sunset, which was simply breathtaking.

I've been back a half dozen more times, always discovering new things to be impressed with.

You should have a great time...

Yeah... apparently, they don't allow cameras, but for your convenience, they're more than happy to have one of their employees snap a shot of you on the walkway... for a price, of course.

Again, I haven't gone myself... but that's what I remember reading on their homepage when I was checking it out, and what's been confirmed by the one guy I know of who's gone... "tourist trap" to use his exact words. Read up on it, though - it's still kinda new, so maybe they've changed their ways.

But that aside, I'm sure the Grand Canyon is a great place to go... especially if you have at least an elementary understanding of geology.

I agree, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park are much better options...great views, less crowded, less expensive and just more impressive, IMHO
