Google is changing their algorithm.

Just read a SEO newsletter & Google is changing their algorithm & will penalize websites that have many one way links. IN & OUT

beta-tester 08-29-2007 09:28 AM

source of such (dis)information?

ztik 08-29-2007 09:32 AM

Im not sure about for search. I know just 2 days ago they changed it for PPC which is similiar to what you are saying. This was only for the top position(s).

Seems they want to penalize sites that have outbound links to sites not linking back?

So they'll blacklist anyone with reciprocal links and penalize anyone with links to sites that don't link back?

Genius!

Wolfy 08-29-2007 09:36 AM

back to the top I go!!!!

TheDoc 08-29-2007 09:40 AM

Google seems to think they are the Internet authority. They want to penalize others for the exact same thing they do.

Forkbeard 08-29-2007 09:43 AM

Very opinionated article, kinda lacking in evidence though.

Read it again and imagine that every sentence starts "I think that..." and you'll do better.

Well, it's their search engine... they can stop listing everyone today if they wanted to and close up the search page.
In that respect, yes, they are the authority... of their own possession.

You can start your own search engine if you like, and pick and choose who you list, you penalize and hell, you don't even have to give a reason or explain it.

Klen 08-29-2007 09:53 AM

Fuck the google, soon there will be new search engine which will beat google.I mean they FORBID buying links and FORBID link exchanges. How the fuck else you will get backlinks?

They can make up any rules they want, but the more they do the more people move away. History will repeat itself like it has so many times before.

hmm, maybe by building a decent site, that people want to link to?????????:2 cents:

tony286 08-29-2007 10:05 AM

Why would they make that rule?

headless ghost 08-29-2007 10:10 AM

just read that... and to be honest... it's so full of shit i think I can see the O's turning brown inside...

At the end he suggests piling up on 1 way incoming links... But earlier he said 1 way OUTgoing links is bad "you'll be haemorrhaging Page Rank" so why the hell would anyone give you 1 way links?

when there's some sort of evidence to back this shit up I MIGHT believe it, but until then it's just /another/ "guru" trying to scare people into hiring him for seo or to get views on his ads (that are all over the place btw)

jonesonyou 08-29-2007 10:15 AM

bad for google

They start to penalize even that. For example,statcounter.com had pr10 thanks to a lot of users who used their free counter and every user gived them automaticly backlink. Now they are pr9 beacuse google didnt like to see commmercial site to be pr10.

hmm didnt realise that..., but i really dont see google dieing any time soon to be honest, oh but wait wait wait, edit - surely if they had the free counter, then they -had- to link back, therefore thats a forced link back. no wonder google popped it back down

umm did you miss what he was saying . one way links would be penalized.. thus building a decent site would get you penalized.

I cant see this theory being valid ..

RawAlex 08-29-2007 11:38 AM

I can't wait to see CNN hit PR0 and get kicked out of the SERPs.

Emil 08-29-2007 12:02 PM

This is just stupid. The won't do that. If people find a great site they'll often link to it. I don't understand why that great site would be penalize for being a site that people like.

DaddyHalbucks 08-29-2007 12:17 PM

I assume it changes regularly.

Just build a good site and use good practices, and Google will treat you well.

yeh, I can definitley see google dropping decent sites.

nasko 08-29-2007 01:55 PM

From Google Webmaster Guidelines:

Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.

Examples of link schemes can include:

Links intended to manipulate PageRank
Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
Buying or selling links

baddog 08-29-2007 02:53 PM

I wonder who doesn't know how to spell optimization, SitePro or the author?

crockett 08-29-2007 02:54 PM

Google is always changing their algorithm or fine tuning it.

X37375787 08-29-2007 02:57 PM

Yawn, big time.

Voodoo 08-29-2007 02:58 PM

Google sucks. I use Infoseek.

baddog 08-29-2007 03:09 PM

Be advised . . . it is only the author's opinion on some of his comments.

So if a bunch of websites link to a new/upcoming/popular website - the linked-to site will lose its position in google? Stupid.

Incoming links should be done with care to look natural. :2 cents:

greg80 08-29-2007 03:28 PM

This is ridicolous. I am not even going to read the article, I can see from its title it's bullshit.

I have a website wich has over 2k of NATURAL one way links and NO outbound link. Why the fuck would they penalize me for that?

Are the incoming from relevant sites?

Jai 08-29-2007 03:42 PM

looks like the author of this article wrote this to help his seo by getting bunch of inbound links from sites like this one!

xxxjay 08-29-2007 04:01 PM

??????????????????

V_RocKs 08-29-2007 06:20 PM

Uhhh... that article is simply stating what is already occurring. When you link to someone without getting a link back you are diluting your page rank. That is normal and has been that way since they invented PR!

This thread is going into the bin labeled, TOOL!

Iron Fist 08-29-2007 07:08 PM

i don't do link exchanges or trades with one of my sites and its ranking nicely in the SERPs - all inbounds from the main page to an internal link. Who knows, keep playing until you've found the magic ingredient.

zand_stein 08-29-2007 08:10 PM

its only publicity...........

minusonebit 08-29-2007 08:35 PM

I wish I had a dime for every time I heard some SEO bullshit. Build a good site that people want to visit and guess what, it'll get visited!
