Teen trades hacked iPhone for 'sweet' car
SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- The teenage hacker who managed to unlock the iPhone so that it can be used with cellular networks other than AT&T will be trading his reworked gadget for a new car.
http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2007/TECH/pte....iphone.ap.jpg George Hotz, of Glen Rock, New Jersey, said he had reached the deal with CertiCell, a Louisville, Kentucky-based mobile phone repair company. Hotz posted on his blog that he traded his modified iPhone for "a sweet Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones." "This has been a great end to a great summer," Hotz wrote. The 17-year-old Hotz said he will be sending the three new iPhones to the three online collaborators who helped him divorce Apple Inc's popular product from AT&T's network. The job took 500 hours, or about 8 hours a day since the iPhone's June 29 launch. Hotz made the deal with Terry Daidone, co-founder of CertiCell, who also promised the teen a paid consulting job. "We do not have any plans on the table right now to commercialize Mr. Hotz' discovery," Daidone said in a statement. |

Man kids are getting smarter. At 17 I could barely use a computer let alone hack something. Wonder what apple has to say about all of this?

Apple still has no comment....right now i am sure they r working round the clock to fix what they think he did lol |
didn't he post the directions for doing the procedure online? I read a news article saying he didn't want people to make money off of his discovery, yet he takes a free car :1orglaugh
|
well done!
|
What an idiot...
He could have sold the information and made millions. Not a bad deal for a singular iphone though. He can make more. |

Is this not illegal?
Go hack anything else and you'll have your ass a lawsuit. I'm waiting for Apple to take the kids car and his wages from that job he landed once they sue his ass. |

Teenager A spends eight hours per day breaking his back loading trucks or working construction in the hot sun. At the end of the summer, he has skin cancer and a used Pinto. Teenager B sits in his air-conditioned house eight hours per day hacking an iPhone. At the end of the summer, he has moderate national fame, a new 350Z, a cushy job waiting for him, and three new iPhones. It's amazing to me that people would think Teenager B is the one who did the wrong thing. SpaceAce |
what an idiot, why would you want a car over a nice sum of money?
|
I can practically see him regretting this decision down the road.
Assuming the car is $35,000 - he still pocketed $70 per hour. :thumbsup |
I think even with the cool car he still wont get laid. lol
