Looking forward to pics... we caught the tail end of the eclipse... but I was a bit distracted, and didn't have a cam handy.

I shot those with a Nikon D-80 and the lens is the 80-210 that came with it. Nothing fancy. The lens was zoomed all the way at 210mm. The settings were about 200 speed ISA f/5.6, 120th/sec for the first phase of the eclipse, and then about 4 seconds (for the red moon exposures).

Then during that phase we sat around, got bored and started playing around with lights during 30 second exposures.

Not the sort of thing you'd be wanting to look at through a camera's optical viewfinder though.......

I beg to differ. I BEG!!!! to differ.

We're all night owls here at DigitalDope. The lunar eclipse was more suited for our eyes. We tried looking at a solar eclipse and just burned out our retinas. And the few of us that used the box with the pinhole in it realized... we were using a box with a pinhole in it. We weren't watching the eclipse, we were watching a projection of it.

The solar eclipse is just too dang hard to look at, and also it's hard to wake up in the middle of the day to actually watch one.

That's ok, one day you'll see your first one. Unfortunately, you'll never know when you've seen your last. So you better see one and quick!
