DJ a1r3k - I was wondering...can you answer me something

A while back i downloaded your 80's dj mix with Michael Jackson and others. Really nice compilation.

I was just wondering. Did you pay for all those songs? And also did you pay royalties for making it public?

Thanks.

ADL Josh 08-27-2007 10:20 AM

seeric 08-27-2007 10:22 AM

What does that mean exactly? Can you take any song without having to pay royalties if its for promotional use?

And you didnt answer how you got them. Did you all buy them?

seeric 08-27-2007 10:28 AM

And thanks, i learned something new about promotional use. Didnt know that.

seeric 08-27-2007 10:31 AM

btw, letter of the law, its illegal to sell them.

record companies need djs. we get the artists heard.

kinda like affiliates using content to generate sales.

anyway, bash all you want dutchie flicker.

labels won't bite the hand that feeds them unless you mass produce them and sell them.

btw, hit me up i have a new one, im selling them for 150 bucks each. since i only have 10.

ROFL

StuartD 08-27-2007 10:32 AM

Any self respecting dj worth their salt still does their mixes with vinyl.

Ah you were helping them getting some 80's MJ songs out.

WarChild 08-27-2007 10:37 AM

I always wondered how a company like say Flash Cash can get away with using other people's music on a mix to promote their program.

DJ is right, I used to be a DJ and not only do the Record Labels want you to play their stuff as often as you like, they actually SEND you the records for free and ask you to chart them and promote them.

DO record labels like people to use their music to promote porn? You have to wonder.

It's fairly simple. Take it step it by step.

Dipshit buys and album and considers it "promotional" because they aren't selling it directly. They use the clips for a paid project. You might notice they don't steal from metallica or any other contemporary artist. They claim having the vinyl gives them the right to gank it.

They say DJ's can do whatever they want with the said intellectual property because it's for promotional reasons not related to either the artist or the label.

Dipshit gets paid for said project and keeps justifying it's for promotional use without handing over any of the money or time to the intellectual property owners.

Sponsor hands out stolen music remixed without paying royalties.

Dipshit whines about stealing from their boss, even if it's for promotional use and sucks whatever cock they can to be a "bro".

Dipshit is a theif.

Dipshit will steal from you the minute they get a chance to justify it.

Fine'

connectz 08-27-2007 03:55 PM

I'm just curious about one thing. Does the dipshit or any of the other "DJ's" in this thread have any signed releases from the artists or labels to reproduce or distribute their work for promotional or any other reasons?

They should post them. I don't think they do. They're basic thieves.

The irony of watching someone like you call someone "slow" is like watching a slug call a tortoise inert.

You used Michael Jackon's music yes? Let's ask his label whether you have the right to use it for promotional purposes?

I don't think they'll be so impressed with your board ass kissing.

How many promotional CD"s have you made with it?

I'm sitting on sony's website. Contact us is a valuable button.

seeric 08-27-2007 04:14 PM

knock yourself out.

MaDalton 08-27-2007 04:17 PM

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but as far as i remember:

- samples up to 4 bars (measures, tacts - or whatever you call it) you can use without asking and without paying royalties

- cover versions without changing lyrics or music can be done without asking, but royalties must be paid for commercial use

- for samples longer than 4 bars or cover versions with alternate text the publisher must be asked for agreement

Oh I'm going to. I could say I just got off the phone with Sony BMG and their interest in your promotional CD for a porn company.

You're a thief. Sleep well.

Sucks to be those that have ignored this in the next few months.

I hate getting involved into drama threads, but damn it, A1R3K is completely correct. The music industry is a bind right now and deejays really help getting music heard, so they appreciate deejays playing any of their music, bought or not. I've been in the music industry for 16 years so I'm not talking out of my ass, plus I'm a deejay as well.
