Gonzales Resigns
Just heard it on CNN, Alberto Gonzales will announce resignation today. :thumbsup
|
woo hoo!
the pressure made him do it |
The New York Times was first to break the news- they already have an article up:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/27/washington/27cnd-gonzales.html?_r=1&hp=&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnl x=1188217389-cymQmk8yriEnBfjR8kf/sA |
hell yeah, and good morning. :)
|
We had a betting pool on when he'd cave, I didn't think he'd last this long.
|
Alberto Gonzales shouldnt have ever been in this country.
His grandparents were illegal immigrants, therefore making him an anchor baby. He claims to not "know if they came here legally or illegally" If they got rid of birthright citizenship, people like him would not even be citizens. How can we expect people like this to enforce immigration when they come from illegal immigrants? |
O hell yes. Best news I had this week.
|
Normally I like to wash my face, have some coffee, and do a number of other things before I post on GFY, but when I heard the "breaking news" right after I woke up, I had to share.
Good Morning, it's a great day. :banana |
A revolving door at that position is about the best we can porners can hope for
|
Good Riddance!
|
I agree on the revolving door. Also would be nice to see the drive to press charges against gonzales continue. I know it's highly unlikely anyone from this administration would ever serve time, just would like to see something more done to set precident that you just can't bend / break laws, fuck shit up, and then walk away scott free when you start getting too much heat.
|
is there anyone left standing beside bush? besides his wife?
rats leaving a sinking ship.. The funny thing will be watching Bush try to get a new AG approved by Congress. |
i wonder how many more threads there will be about this topic
|
Oh boy, Chertoff coming in. What a wonderful choice, failed at hurricane katrina handling. What a nice resume to come in with. Must be the least tainted buddy he could think of. Oh well, not too much time left at least.
|
Great news to start out the week. Wonder who Captain Crunch is going to try and put in that position next?

Yeah, There is specualtion of Dick Cheney being drafted for president and he might make Gonzales his VP.
Oh, shit, what an nightmare that was! |

He is so shady on so many levels.
Good riddens. It took too long. |
Its about time.

Good news for webmasters. Gonzales was a Bush yes man and was not very respectful of the rule of law. Had he survived and been in place for the rest of Bush's term, you could have expected serious attempts to make 2257 a national issue for the next election.
Nominating a replacement with less than 15 months to run in office (and with a couple of them lost getting up to speed), it is unlikely that the new AG could actually get things going and move toward prosecution within the time frame remaining. IMHO< this is another step towards turning the Bush admin into a major lame duck. |
Only good news if the new person is any better for us.
|
Exactly, things could get worse. Hopefully, this is a positive step.

Who could resign next? Barney? Laura? The maid? Whitehouse groundskeeper Willie?
|
The next wave of resignations will be anyone wanting to work on an election team for a republican front runner (oxymoron at this point, I know). That won't happen until the end of the year or early next year, as the field sorts itself out. Any current Whitehouse staffer under 60 years old has the potential to do that, it is a way to potentially extend your career if you can be part of the next presidency.
However, considering that the Republicans are fairly unlikely to be able to elect the next president, and some people actually think they don't want to, there may not be many leaving for the campaigns. |
Gonzales was just a puppet of Bush & Co. The Bush White House appoints based on a willingness to say yes without questioning anything.
Previous AG's would have told Bush to take a hike. Even Ashcroft stood up to Bush when he thought he was being pushed into illegal conduct. We will have to wait for Gonzales' book to come out before we find out if he was an accessory to Bush & Co, or if he was just some poor guy who was intimidated into doing what he knew was wrong. Either way, the buck stopped with him. He allowed a great deal of power to be taken from the people and given to the Government. That power will never be given back. The blood of America is forever on his hands. |
he bounced ..
|
It's a good day afterall
|
Can't wait to hear what that IDIOT Bush has to say...
|
Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-)))))))))))))))) Now, I just hope his replacement will not be as bad for us as he and ashcroft were!!!! Dave |

Bush on Gonzales this morning: "His good name has been dragged through the mud for political reasons."
Really GW? Well considering the source, your comment is no surprise. It's still stupid as fuck and unrealistic as hell, but not surprising. |
Just saw it on cnn myself...my Monday just got a hellavu lot better!:thumbsup
