    Boy Suspended from School for Drawing Gun

    Paula and Ben Mosteller were upset when their child was suspended for drawing a gun. The gun was drawn on the edge of an assignment paper. The sketch was turned in with the assignment and now brings up the question of what constitutes a "threat".

    The director of secondary education says the gun was an "implied threat" and school administrators have to determine the situation and the consequences. Paula says she cant believe there "wasn't another way to resolve" the situation.

    Paula and Ben's son was originally suspended for 5 days but they were able to get it reduced to 3. School officials have put the sketch in the boy's file and say that laws prevent them discussing the case "From a district point of view, its over".

          if you're going to create an enslaved population, you have to learn to curb all forms of expression and intelligence as soon as possible. drawing anything at all should not be allowed. nor speaking or thinking. go. memorize. repeat.

              Exactly. Pushed to extremes if the toddlers in kindergarten paint faces with eyes in the wrong spot, and arms coming out of the cheeks, then those children are obviously painting a warped and evil version of reality - and ought to be locked up too, eh?

                  Iwould presume as its art, that the child can draw what he wants under freeden of speech.

                  Surly by doing this they are censering art.

                      public schools are funded by the government, you do not have freedom of speech n school. not kids, not teachers.

                      teachers cannot say or do what they want, nor can kids.

                          correct. you can refer to the recent supreme court 5-4 ruling on the "bong hits 4 jesus" case from AK in which public schools can censor even off school property if it's a school event.
