Mark Cuban: The internet of today versus what I suggested to the committee would happen if internet speeds to the home increased to 1 gigabyte per second, is like comparing the plane Orville and Wilbur Wright built in 1903 to a brand-new Boeing.

We have reached a point of diminishing returns with today?s internet. The speed of broadband to your home won?t increase much more in the next five years than it has in the last five years. That is not enough to work as a platform for new levels of applications that will require much, much higher levels of bandwidth.

I have to agree. The internet isn't new and exciting anymore. It's just another thing we have in our life. Sure a new site comes along that makes us happy, but for the most part, not much changes.

He wants more speed and more power. The internet could be used for so much with this in place. But it'll never happen since the ISPs more or less have a monopoly in place.

Phoenix 08-24-2007 07:42 AM

i need my sig to sign someone up

tranza 08-24-2007 07:48 AM

Lol, he couldn't be more WRONG!

This guys is smart, but he also has a preset goal in mind and doesn't like the way that the net is going. His goal won't come around, or at least he won't be able to get in front of it like he has the last couple of times.

He wants to experience the same thrill that society had when we went from horse to car or radio to TV. We already had that, going from isolated islands of computing to the net we have today. The Internet has almost reached appliance stage, and that isn't a bad thing. The next big step isn't directly ahead.

So either the person writing the article is an idiot or we can't believe Cuban if he doesn't know the difference between GB and Gb/s :helpme

I know Mark and he is and has always been a smart guy. On another level, take Warren Buffet (sp?)-he senses market movement long before it happens. That is how he dumped so much into Bank of America and make a ton the next day with Countrywide bank last week.

The saying "If you see the bandwagon coming, you are already too late" is really what Mark is saying I believe. - hinting at his bandwagon long before it is seen. And probably frustrated the foresight of the wagon is parked in the barn.

I disagree with what he said about the speeds.

If the electric companies go ahead with the system they have been testing, we will be seeing almost unlimited speeds in the next 5 years.

They have tested the speeds to like 1terabit

I will try and find the article that I read that in. The only thing is, that then the PC's can not keep up.

:eek2

Wow, class act. Is that even legal? :helpme

RawAlex 08-24-2007 10:09 AM

Please note too: Cuban is looking to buy a baseball team. This guy no longer has a clue what exciting is. He is planning retirement, it seems. He can sit in the owners box all day and swear at himself. Maybe he can hire a member of the grounds crew to go cuss out the umpire when he doesn't like the calls.

fallenmuffin 08-24-2007 10:09 AM

He has a point it is highly boring and dead... 1998 was the best for me personally online. Today, even when something is cool and innovative it's still boring and gay, lol..

I loved the net when it first came out but dial up was a bitch to deal with. High speed wasn't even available where i lived until 2003. Back in 98 when i got online none of my friends were online or even had computers, now everyone is and does. There are many people who have just got online in past couple years who i am sure still get a thrill out of it.

bDok 08-24-2007 10:35 AM

interesting articles for sure. total truth... nope.

Much like Friedrich Nietzsche, who scandalized 19th-century Europe by declaring that "God is dead," Mark Cuban has some bad news for all the true believers who are investing billions in the Web.
Who the fuck is Mark Cuban !! Some asswipe making 50$ an hour from telecoms trying to get all of the Internet straddled to their post suddenly feels comparable to Nietzsche. Bleah.

I blame it on Apple and marketing people...

I still like reading the following Maddox post:
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=banish
... especially when some fuck tard mentions web 2.0, or some equally retarded catch phrase.

Drake 08-24-2007 09:49 PM

The fun went out of it some time ago for me too. Lost its sheen so to speak.

Not if what they publish is true.

No different than a Merril Lynch guy doing research and then issuing a sell rating for a stock instead of a buy or hold. :2 cents:

V_RocKs 08-25-2007 05:48 AM

He hasn't seen my blogs then.

Mark Cuban made created a site called Broadcast.com. He developed it and ended up selling it to yahoo for around 4 billion dollars. He also created and owns the High Def network, a TV channel with nothing but high def programing and is the owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team.

I think he may make a little more than $50 per hour.
