Is anyone using Secondlife ?
Is anyone using Secondlife to promote their sites ? Been in their a while, it's like a cartoon version of the internet itself. You have your land aka your website, you have landmarks aka bookmarks. You can link to webpages from within the game, drag an RSS feed into the game and stream your movies into your virtual cinema screen.
Something is just niggling at me that with better technologies this could become the "virtual world" equivalent of Windows. |
Ive read lots of stuff where people are making tens of thousands is dollars pretty easily off that
|
Never heard of it 'till now... I will be checking that out!
|
yes it is virtual world but more like game as real life, still for kids but with boom campaign :2 cents:
|
Second life is a joke. There are serious limitations to their software that doesn't allow more than (are your ready) about 60 people to be in one area at one time. most of the "commercial" areas of the site are vacant. Plus, they are just like websites. You can't just walk around and browse, you have to teleport yourself to a site (sort of like surfing the web) and then teleport to a new location when you want to move.
Check wired online for an interesting article... the people making the money are the ones designing the worlds for clueless big name companies that have been BSed into thinking secondlife is anything important. |
I used to... Obeserved around their world a little to see if it would fruit business. I pretty much dumped it after less than a month of tries

Yes you can teleport, walk around, and fly too (with no CO2 emissions !)
It is some funny, weird shit but it is very adult friendly and there's some good opportunities to push your URL in your personal profile, the GROUPS aka Yahoo groups and the classified ads. and events calendar. |

very very true...did lots or experimenting and research and came to same conclustion |
that experiment was doomed from day one, everybody with a clue could see that.
|
there are people making tens of thousands in SL without selling a thing, but hey i didn't say anything, listen to the people above ;)
|
no one here will adopt their business model into SL until it becomes as ubiquities as a mouse.
|
Lots of mainstream companies have pulled out.

I really like reading RawAlex's posts. He's like the voice of reason.
I did my fair share of experimenting and came to the following conclusions: 1) It is boring as fuck 2) I'd feel stupid making out with some cyber chick. It's like going back to being 13 and looking all over newsgroups to find girls willing to cybersex. 3) Too slow. I'm on a 1500 / 256 connection with a top of the line computer and everything renders slowly |
What a huge waste of time.
|
Lol such hostility towards a game. I guess that is the spirit of GFY! :)
Cybersexing can be fun, I love the couches with the different sex positions you can use. It's not the next killer app by any means, but its still fun in a mediocre way.... At least for 30 minutes it was cool and fun (and FREE), then yeah, after not that long, it is pretty boring. :) Maybe if you're the creative type, it can keep your attention, then you can create objects and scripts and whatnot, but as a tourist, which is most people (duh), there isn't enough to keep peoples interest. |
Boring. As. Whale. Shit.
There's not a lot of traffic either. There's only about 40k surfers in there at any one time spread over tons of land. It's not worth it. |
there is "some" money to be had in there.. i would not go in there looking to make bucket loads unless ur interested in the virtual realestate game... even then its a bit late to get into that now.. i get recurring income from my shops in there.. it covers all cost and pays me well for time spent on it.. a get rich quick scheme it aint. still a good place if you're into 3D design/animation etc.. if u want to make any money selling shit in there.. u need a lot of exposure.. multiple shop locations.. good rankings in their search engine and a product people talk about and reccomend to others..

But I saw a little blurb on SL last week on tv and the graphics seem so sad and the speed of travel so slow. I doubt it can catch on much at its current level of tech. |
