A news network with no government subsidies or corporate (advertising) influence...

The Real News is a non-profit news and documentary network focused on providing independent and uncompromising journalism. Our staff, in collaboration with courageous journalists around the globe, will investigate, report and debate stories on the critical issues of our times.

I think this is a great idea and I for one will support it. :thumbsup

Also without having to worry about 'ratings' there won't be endless hours devoted to Paris Hilton's latest escapade while real news slips under the radar. Case in point...

Wow...nobody at GFY is interested in an unbiased news source? :(

jonesonyou 08-21-2007 12:03 PM

No one .....

Are you interested in making money? Hit me up.

crockett 08-21-2007 12:27 PM

I like the idea, but I'm not sure if I'd support them.

I just watched http://www.therealnews.com/web/index...hisview=ite m

Its one of their news videos on US vs Iran. While I may agree with what he is saying, it's not the journalist job to take a side or have an agenda. He isn't reporting on a story IMO but rather sharing his opinion on the subject.

So in theory he's doing exactlly what Fox news or CNN does..

Yes, that particular clip was what you call an editorial piece and he made it very clear that he was only giving you his opinion. But you are saying you would rather have your news come from a source that must appease to advertiser and government interests based on the fact that The Real News may do editorial/opinion segments now and then. Jesus dude...that is what all four of the "24-hour news channels" I get here do for their entire primetime lineup.

I prefer to watch the news when I sit down and eat dinner in the late evening but that has become impossible now because every one of the "news" channels is showing entertainment programming (ie. Larry King, Glenn Beck, Bill O'reilly, etc.) Just being able to watch the news on my own schedule would make it worth the 10 bucks a month.

The BBC?

D 08-21-2007 01:21 PM

Interesting.

I'll have to keep my eye on it as the network shapes up.

zand_stein 08-21-2007 01:34 PM

yeah right you have to keep an eye for that!

zand_stein 08-21-2007 01:40 PM

yes you have to..

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-21-2007 01:41 PM

No I'm not saying I'd rather get mynews from any specific group.. I'm just saying that seemed to do the same as Fox ect.. ect.. just they have their own agenda to push.

The point is I want real un biased news not something filled with opinions from one side or the other.

Xplicit 08-21-2007 01:49 PM

Interesting concept, but if it takes off they're gonna start thinking 'we could make some money off this'.

What possible 'agenda' do they have to push? Could it be that you're so used to news sources HAVING an agenda that you just assume they all must have one?

bDok 08-21-2007 02:37 PM

of course I'm interested in news like this. However, when I'm coming to gfy i'm looking to see some biz threads... some hit it threads and shit like that. not to debate the current issues with paid for news tv. :2 cents:

They have an obvious left wing agenda.

I'm a lefty but I don't want news that just focuses on the one side of the argument. It seems to me they are trying to appeal to the more liberal minded and are going to play to that mind set. Which means their news will cater to liberals just the same as Fox caters to the right wingers.

I'm not bashing liberals as I feel I'm one, but again I don't want news that just focuses on my thoughts on things. I want a open minded news source and I'm not quite sure this is one. The preview video looked too much like they were trying to sell themselves to the liberal minded person.

I don't want the news to sell it's self to me, I want the real story.

Because they want to report on what is REALLY happening in Iraq rather than just reading press releases from the Pentagon? :winkwink: Besides, seeing as they don't even officially launch until 2008 I think it's a little early to make that call.

News Flash: All of the major networks put ratings above all else. They need to in order to survive as low ratings = no advertisers = bye bye. This is why we get endless hours of 'news' on Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Michael Vick while stories that actually affect your life barely get mentioned if at all.

crockett 08-21-2007 04:09 PM

ok I see no one can argue with you ot have a diffrent opinion.. you're right it's the best news source ever..
