I've worked customer service in a place that has high tourist concentration, and I have to agree that the Japanese tourists were always the most pleasant and appreciative.

ya, North Americans tip well, I'm guessing that is what this is based on. I won't lie, I didn't read it and don't intend to because it is most likely a load of crap. Everyone who has done the backpacking thing knows that Americans try as hard as they can to distance themselves from the stigma of being American. I'd say 90% of the Americans I have met travelling in Europe were sporting Canadian flags.

Even here in Norway most of the toursists are japanese. But many americans too. And most of them seems nice. Though, my gf works in a boys clothing store, and EVERY american guy that visit REALLY try to hit on her. I mean really tries. Are there no shy american boys?

It is also a rating based on a sample of 1500 hotel managers and has nothing to do with the much bigger perception, tho sure, some will try to find relevance in it for their own agenda.
