First lady Laura Bush is asking parents to turn off the television on Sept. 11 and instead read to their children and perhaps light a memorial candle.

"Don't let your children see the images, especially on Sept. 11, when you know it'll probably be on television again and again -- the plane hitting the building or the buildings falling," Mrs. Bush said in an interview Friday.

Personally, I don't want to see those images and videos on Wednesday. Everyone will be dwelling and crying, sobbing... not that I blame them for mourning their friends and family. But I don't want to see that, yet again...

I think it all depends on the age of your kids. I listen to a lot of NY radio, and I got the impression a lot of Ney Yorkers feel the same way. Just let the day go by, and PLEASE skip the stories of celebs who say they were "just having breakfast on some Virgin Island" when they heard of the bad news. Those stories are not really going to help anyone that has serious loss. Broadcasting stuff like that will only make those people more mad. Couldn't agree more. Who cares where I (or any celebrity skank) was, watching the news on CNN.

On th eother hand, I heard the chief fireman say yesterday that he thinks it is a good thing it is being shown every now and then, to keep the US alert.

When is the last time YOU heard about the 93 WTC bombing? Probably not much prior to 9/11.

First off, I havent watched Television since the Laker Finals, and post often enough about certain means of media, that regualars here might know.

As for your "control" comment, yeah.

I would say any man who sits in front of the TV on Sept 11th and watches rerun footage is surely under control.

Not to mention, if one makes their kids watch it as well, they are controlling them.

Its not hard to see.

I think some of us are starting to argue different things. I didn't say that I had any interest in watching
9-11 events/memorials/etc myself. I have no interest only because the scenes are firmly etched in my mind and I don't think i would gain anything from watching them (Maybe I'm wrong. Just a guess).

What I do take issue is with Mrs. Bush's statement
"Don't let your children see the images". If my daughter wants to watch these memorial services or whatever else is on she can. That is her choice. I'll even give her the big TV to watch it on if it's important to her. Doesn't matter to me.

I think once you recognize the media and the news for what it is, it loses its desired effect. I watch the news like it is one long comedy show. I like watching the president bumble his words and watch the herd applaud his canned patriotism. The blank look in his eyes is worth watching it alone. I love watching some New York liberal cry their eyes out everyday over 9-11. I love watching the Roses of the world demand the heads of the Muslim infidel. The crowd scenes of terrified Zionists running around gathering up the body parts of loved ones. The world is a circus and people are the sideshow, and the news lets me watch it.

I love watching how the news works to sway public opinion. We need more news networks. We need the Zionist news network, we need to broadcast Arab news all day long, we need to broadcast white and black seperatist news.

ALL NEWS IS PROPAGANDA. And if there is anything I love in the world, it is propagand. People trying to form other peoples opinions for them is the greatest science there is. News and advertising. So some reporter is live on a scene and reporting with their words, their thoughts, and their senses and damn, some of THEM care. Hell, some might even care more about people more than any of the various media awards. I HAVE heard people profess such things.

I personally don't buy into the Synecdoche-like viewpoint, the personalization of some corporate structure or entity. I think it leads to meaningless statements. So when you say "somehow I think you knew this", yes I do know what you are saying but I don't know what you mean.
