According to the school's unspoken racial codes, however, that area was reserved for white kids; Purvis is black. Some white students didn't look kindly on the encroachment: the next day, three nooses hung from the oak's branches.

One of the recent Newsweek magazines had an article about this town. Much to my surprise it seems that racism is still alive in the US. What a damn shame.

Racism will never be dead. It influences every area of our lives. I am part native american, though I look white. There is more opportunity for me in society compared to someone who looks native american. That could be when I'm approached by the law, looking for a job, or just talking with a stranger. It's not just here and Louisiana, it's everywhere.

Racism can be individual acts like that.

However, more accurately, it is instituitional policies that cause discrimination and inequality and racial preferences.

"Affirmative action" and "diversity" are the new euphemisms for racial preferences.

Some areas of the south are so behind in everything.

FACT: White people are the majority victim's of Racial Hate Crimes these days.

More so than any other minority in the country.

Funny how no one talks about the "other" racism in this country... admitting kids to universities because they are black instead of because they are capable, or hiring them to posts in law enforcement or fire fighting because the department needs to fill its quota, not because the candidates are the top of the applicant pool.

What makes someone a black kid or black person?

very simple to see what happend.

- some black people thought there was a form of rascism
- these back people willingly provoced a group of children from their normal playing grounds
- these black people kicked these in the head multiple times in a row willingly to kill that person
- these black people did all they could to cover up what they started by going to the press and covering it up
- these black people know think they are being charged only because of rascism, the nr1 excuse in the world for black peope raping, murdering and alike

Ironically this actually fuels more racism. Take a white kid who never had anything against blacks and keep getting him denied college admission, jobs or promotions to less qualified black peolple and see how he turns into a racist.

This is 2007 not 1957. No need for affirmitive action in college admissions. I don't think you can find asngle case anywhere where a black kid would get denied into college just because he's black. And if there was such a college WHY would he want to go there anyways? I wonder how many white kids get denied acceptance into traditionally black colleges?

9 out of 10 real racists i see are black or Marrocan. I sometimes have the feeling that 99% of the people fromn that group aged 15 to say 30 are racist. Its crazy. Maybe i live in the wrong place but i can't be far off.

The southern states of the US in particular are poor when it comes to attitudes on race - never seen anything, anywhere, as bad as this.

Sometimes, it's not mean't in any way to be harmful or offensive - it's a leftover from the past which was inbred and would never leave an individual and going to take generations for that to fade away.

Sadly, least from the link story, a young generation still has this legacy to resolve - they got it from somewhere :(

How about Hispanic history month, there are more hispanics than blacks now. or how about American Indian hisptory month. What whitey did to the Indians is just as bad or actually worse than what he did to blacks.

The fact is, whites are afraid of blacks in the US. Physically afraid. This is the sole cause of racism here in 2007.

The issue with the American Indians came down to natural selection. While Europeans had made great advancements in society, the American Indians were slightly more advanced than cavemen. In fact, American Indians hadn't even invented the wheel yet.
