ATTENTION!!! If you are running a pirated copy of Windows XP (and who isn't?) then DO NOT INSTALL SERVICE PACK 1!!! For those of us running a pirated copy of Windows XP (i.e. using a reg key starting with FCKGW), Service Pack 1 will stop XP from working... completely. Further, the new version of Auto Update due to premiere on Monday, 9/9, will no longer allow any computers running XP with pirated or generated reg keys from downloading updates and security fixes. Until/ unless a fix is developed, this issue can not be worked around. Microsoft is the devil!

Yeah the last few days an "auto-update" icon started appearing in my taskbar.. How do I permanently disable auto-update?

I'm going to buy XP Pro next month -- I'm still using the *ahem* pirated copy. The school store has it on sale for only $100.

I have a warez version also.......

First off kiddies ... right from Microsoft's technical pages, it has told you this was going to happen since about June ....

Now if you are running a warez version of Windoze XP Pro ... it is NOT going to render it useless (at least not this time ... )

What it WILL do, is popup a nuisance screen about Microsoft's stance on software piracy, EACH TIME YOU BOOT WINDOZE ...
(similar to the screen on the unregistered version of Winzip)

But just like the ICQ 2000b banner killer, somebody will have a fix out before the week is out .... guaranteed

So in the meantime, all of you go and disable the auto update feature and wait for the fix ...

I read that in the near future Microsoft wants to move to pay-per-use licenses, which you have to download or activate (on-line) each time you use the damn piece of shit - yes - Most of Microsoft's new software is so bloated nobody wants to use it anyhow :BangBang:

I won't lecture against using pirated software, but I will say that if you're using pirated software and they fuck with you...DUH!
