PAYPAL - is it worth the risk?

I've gotten opinions for and agianst the use of paypal.. heard a bunch of horror stories and looked at that anti-paypal site (can't remember the url).. tho so far i've had no trouble using it. My question is do most people here trust it or not?

The main reason i prefer it over checks it because my bank takes forever to put through american checks that are over a certain amount and it seems to much of a hassle to get my clients to use wire transfers.

thanks in advance for your opinion

They reversed a payment for me almost 2 month's ago
and the $1000 is still somewhere 'with them' or near
/dev/null..

so you still haven't got the money? did they give any reason for the missing / frozen funds?

i would even keep more than $500 in there,,
they gave me a handy dandy ATM card so i can
with draw it which is cool,, only thing is they charge
a high fees for incoming money,

i must of miss something cuz i remember when it was all free, i thought they only made money while it floated electronically

I used to use paypal quite a bit and other than a slight problem I had when I started using it (which ended up being a bank problem) it's been pretty good. iCQ me (6612223) if you like and I'll give you the contact details of one of the guys from paypal that helped me out with my problem. This way if anything goes wrong while you're using the service you'll have someone to contact directly, way better than using those shitty online tech support pages.

So yeah, other than the high service fees, it's a pretty good service. I've used for about a year now and it has worked well.

I had loads of trouble just about a year ago, when some scumbag fraudster tried to put through $1000's of transactions through paypal onto my card... Lost over a $1000 and then my bank suspended it and the warning light for fraud on my account was lit...

I had to get lawyers involved before I was able to get my money back and for paypal to stop invoicing me!

It's sorted now and seems to be ok with my new PP account.

Geez, I just read that paypal warning page.. I'll sure think twice about using paypal in the future now

No. Money is gone. Faxing, calling emailing paypal
onyl results in a response that 'reversed payments
will be credited to the cc you used for the payment'.
Well great! But where is it?

And just freezing funds wouldnt have been such a big deal.

They freezed my account and REVERSED a payment
i did for a webdesign job a month later.

So not only i felt screwed, so did the design company
because they thought i reversed the paypal transfer myself.

Oh. and before you start using them: do a little test and try
out their 'support' and see what i mean.

They just shut down one of my accounts 2 weeks ago without any warning. When I asked them why? No answer
When I answered their email trying to figure out whats wrong. I get a generic email back.

They have over 500 dollars of mine.

Anybody knows where to go from here?

They shut down 2 of our accounts in the past 30 days. One was reopened after 3 days, one took 3 weeks and our lawyer sending them a warning letter.

How does Paypal make money? Simple..

Exactly like a regular bank. Paypal = They take your money, put everything in a FDIC insured bank (but your money is not protected). And they make profit with the interests. They also charge high fees for each transaction.

But for some people it's a convenient way to do business, I have to agree, it's very easy to send and receive money. But I wouldn't risk it. I you really want to use it, use it with small amounts.
