BMW 5 Series - Worst Crash Test Rating!!

The 2008 BMW 5 Series was the worst performer in new side-impact crash tests of luxury sedans by the insurance industry.

The Acura RL, Kia Amanti and Volvo S80 all earned the highest safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, according to results released Thursday. The Cadillac STS and Mercedes E-Class earned the second-highest rating.

Kia has come a long ways, but I wouldn't buy one now. I'd let them prove their line more, at least a few more years of tweaking their vehicles.

Shocking about BMW. It makes me reconsider my interest in that line.

I have always liked Acura.

The Audi A8 used to have a superb safety rating. Is it still highly rated?

HomerSimpson 08-16-2007 11:06 AM

I'd still rather choose BMW than KIA...

irinasp 08-17-2007 03:02 AM

can't believe it!

Aquarius 08-17-2007 03:04 AM

Unbelievable, sucks for BMW.

peterk 08-17-2007 03:10 AM

BMWs are sportive cars. It should be safe ... I don't understand why it got these results

If I would have to choose from a BMW and a KIA I will choose for sure the BMW anytime ;) .

Star 69 08-17-2007 03:14 AM

UnFUCKINGbelievable KIA is better than BMW, it's some kinda of anti pr

People seem to forget that Honda, Toyota and Mazda all took their lumps and were shitbox cars when they first hit the North American market.

Look at the low end Kia and Hyundai cars now. Even the Accent/Rio come with standard A/C, airbags, heated seats, blah blah blah AND a 10 year warranty. The comparable GM car costs more and offers less.

tranza 08-17-2007 07:35 AM

That's bad news for BMW....

tomeatsdinner 08-17-2007 07:39 AM

Oh.. what a car.. BMW looks better but I still go for KIA..

salesman 08-17-2007 01:18 PM

why do you laugh about KIAs ? korean cars from year to year better and better and as you can see their cars can beat cars like Mercedes or BMW.

Jensen 08-17-2007 01:26 PM

"The BMW 5 Series starts at $43,500" < WHAT?

$85,500 up here... everything is so fucking cheap in the US :/

Martin3 08-20-2007 11:57 PM

It wasn't the typical side impact test they normally do either. It was one to simulate a truck or SUV hitting a car. That's going to change the results quite a bit. It's good they're doing those kind of real world tests now though.

The new Kia's are actually pretty nice. But like you I just cant get past them being a Kia. Almost would have been better to start a new line really.

Nothing beats an audi :thumbsup
