One of days in Tikrit
I am there with 3 guards, these are proper men from GFH with history in Chechnya. I have task to connect stupid cable across bridge to fucking Sakiya. This we do at night time because we are not vulnerable, and US patrol keep around us clear and safe.
We approach site in jeep, as usual with not protection except men with gun (what can he do against land mine?).
Boris (very real russian name) exit truck when we arrive and go to check and set up position on other side of bridge (it was repair recently).
I begin work at 3:11am in morning. Weather is still warm, no breeze. I have to remove section of cable between points on either side of bridge. I free it on my side and travel to opposite to pull through the pipe. Boris watch me an smoke, against how he is allowed.
Then I feel and see like if someone kick something on road near to me. I don't react.
Then again I feel and look to see second dust poof (street light was working).
Then I hear two shot of rifle and do not move from fear. Boris spit cigarette and shout, duck down and move in front of me. I have Boris on one side and barrier of bridge on other side. It is obvious that shots come from hill to east, there is hill between us and town.
I am stupid and I go to reach my toolbox when other guys, Maxi and Seb whom I know better than Boris shout also and take position behind truck. Seb go to make radio call and Maxi put on knight goggle.
All is silence and still but I hear the elements in the goggle charging. Boris has pushed me to ground and is in prone position now. They whisper about distance judged from hit on bridge and when sound arrived. We wait.
They are scanning hills, I am hiding behind toolbox.
I don't know what they say on radio but Maxi attach suppressor to hes rifle and not long after he sends some bullets to the hills. I don't know was he aiming or not. Bullets sound loud, even though he has suppressor attached.
Boris shout to Maxi to make full auto his rifle and he does, then he grab me, I grab toolbox and he shoves us behind truck. Only activity since those first shots is from us.
Now I have toolbox on back of truck and I have pistol in my hand and my heart feels like a human beatbox.
We all wait, crouched behind truck and do not do anything. Maxim has not fired from his second magazine and we just waiting to see what will happen.
After it feels like a month Boris enter truck from our side and start engine with his head down, back truck slowly away and we are on cover side walking with it down the road untill we enter it at safe location and go to the base. I stay at the base for the night and drink vodka.
