Dmoz

How beneficial is it to get your site listed with DMOZ as far as other search engine rankings go?

I have a "friend" who is an editor for an adult category

Humpy Leftnut 08-14-2007 11:33 PM

They're so fucking backwards over there, it's ridiculous. I used to be an adult editor, but after being asked to jump through 50 invisible hoops to satisfy the whims of random other editors, it was just too fucked up.

Then their server went down for a long ass time, their shit was all busted, and suddenly I couldn't login anymore.. they never responded to e-mails

Semi-Retired-Dave 08-14-2007 11:46 PM

They were the shit when they first came out, for about the first few months.
Not sure about now. But any traffic is good traffic.

I'm just curious because I heard that having a good DMOZ listing can propel a site's rankings in other search engines.

Is there any truth to this?

Google's directory uses the listings from dmoz, so I'm sure being linked from there is relevant.

It's been years since I've submitted a site to dmoz though, they never got reviewed no matter which category I was trying to get listed in.

If you have an inside track to get sites listed there then you should definitely use it.

One way links are always good. DMOZ has some wieght. I'm not even sure if they are still reviewing.

I still submit to them and follow the rules but most of the editors have gone. DMOZ died years ago and I mean years. There are so many dead links in there it is unreal.

Blue Player 08-15-2007 12:05 AM

I think the last time I got a link in there was over 3 years ago.

dmoz is one of the top directories in the world wide web

Good for you if you can list your site there, it is an authority site for Google, and therefore good for PR and SERPS ...

Dmoz is still alive?
