iPhone - Pros & Cons

I'm thinking about getting the iPhone and am hoping that some of you nice people on GFY can provide some insight. Also, how are you all finding the AT&T/Cingular service? I've been with Sprint for as long as I've had a cell phone and the service has been great. I'm a little hesitant to switch.

DateDoc 08-14-2007 11:19 AM

Wait for the next one to come out which is rumored to be happening for xmas. It is a great phone but needs a few things to be the best phone out there. If I was Apple I would add an instant messenger, add a flash for the camera, make it able to record clips instead of just being able to take pics, needs faster internet when not on wifi (3G) and having GPS would be nice.

AssPirate 08-14-2007 11:21 AM

Yeah I heard about that too. Iphone may be a great media player, but its cellphone functions leave a lot to be desired. :-(

DateDoc 08-14-2007 11:22 AM

As a phone it works great.

WonderWoman 08-14-2007 11:24 AM

I have one word for you: BATTERY.

Apple really needs to stop doing that crap with the batteries on the ipod and iphone. They should make them replaceable since the charge runs out so fast.

Babaganoosh 08-14-2007 11:24 AM

Con: You will look like a pretentious queer sitting in starbucks sipping your latte and yacking on your iphone.

jgabra62 08-14-2007 11:26 AM

I think its already one of the best phones out there...
The features that it already has makes up for the ones that are missing.
I've been with ATT/Cingular for years and I've never had any major problems...plus, their customer service is phenomenal. So, if you were to have a problem they are excellent at resolving it so that the customer is always happy.
The iPhone itself is great. It doesnt freeze up like most phones do and its built like a truck. Im not very good with my phones...and Im notorious for dropping them and breaking them. My iPhone has been dropped several times already and there is barely a scratch anywhere on the phone, plus the scratch resistant screen is a nice touch.
If I had any real complaints, it would be the slow internet service...but it is tolerable.

UniversalPass Pete 08-14-2007 11:26 AM

All I know is I saw one for the first time a few days ago and was fucking blown away! I was wondering why everyone was making such a big deal, but now I realize just how cool they are. But yes, count on the second generation to have improvements, and be less expensive.:pimp

tASSy 08-14-2007 11:31 AM

every phone i got from at&t wireless ---> cingular ---> at&t broke within a few months and going through their warranty program wasted an average of 4 hours of just phone time to get my phone replaced. i finally got fed up with their terrible service and coverage that bragged "best in the bay area" on a billboard every other mile but dropped my calls or sounded like chicken scratch all the time. :2 cents:

i really want an iPhone, but i'll wait for the next generation, apple bugs always seem better the second go 'round. maybe by then another carrier will pick them up.

Looks like the iPhone hackers out there may have finally gotten it completely unlocked. This would mean you can buy one, and use it on any network (excluding sprint and verizon since they use a different type of network than ATT).

Really depends what you want out of a phone. If you want a phone that really is light years ahead of anything else when it comes to the user interface, and is hands down the best web browsing experience, and media player experience on a phone then you will want the iPhone. If your more worried about power email features and sync'ing email with exchange etc your better off with something else.

my blackberry still suits me just fine

CE_Ardy 08-14-2007 01:17 PM

Joe, its not a business phone like a blackberry, but it has a lot of cool features. My only complaint is the call volume is lower then most.

That's what I can recommend too

The iPhone is the best phone ever made. The Blackberry is great, however, I do feel the iPhone is better.

You have to use one for a week to understand why.

LBBV 08-14-2007 02:29 PM

I moved from a Treo 700 on Verizon to an Iphone with ATT. So far, I have not been disappointed.

ATT's coverage has been good for me, and I travel a lot.

I was on Verizon's hi-speed network with my Treo and while the Edge network is a bit slow, it's not that much slower than my Treo was. Wireless is flawless. It connects transparently to any open network and tells me about locked networks it finds.

Email works fine. There is no mass delete...yet, so that is sort of a PITA, but I just deal with my spam folder when I'm at a computer. I use IMAP and have not had a single problem. Calendar and email syncs perfectly with my Outlook 2007 client.

Call volume is fine for me (and after years in a rock band, my hearing isn't what it used to be) and the cool part is that when you're using the earbuds, you hear the caller in both ears so it sounds even better...more like a live conversation. I don't use the earbuds for listening to music though...I either use my Sennheisers or my V-MODA buds.

I don't use it much as a camera so flash is not important to me nor is the ability to take videos.

I also don't do a lot of text messaging. It does have an SMS client that I haven't even used yet. I'm old school...if you want to talk to me, call me ;-)

The keyboard took a bit of getting used to, but I'm actually faster on this now than I was my Treo.

My battery life is more then acceptable. I use it a lot and charge it about every 3-4 days.

The cool factor is amazing. I'm still blown away by the interface.

So, for me, it's the best phone I've ever had... :thumbsup

Love mine. Yes it is a little quiet. The battery is fine once i quit firing it up ever 20 minutes to show off. But you can actually surf the web and do email fine. All on a handheld so i have to say i am more then pleased with it.

TwinCities 08-14-2007 06:20 PM

I see people bitching a lot about the lack of a removable battery. Be honest, have you EVER had to buy or needed to change out a battery in you rprevious cell phones? I don't know anyone that has. Typically a cellphone is not kept longer than a battery will no longer hold a charge.

collegeboobies 08-14-2007 06:28 PM

I have no problems with battery. Internet speed when not on Wifi, thats an issue with any phone, not a damn thing they can do about it.

Hey Bill - that's great info. Thank you. I have the Treo 650 and really think I'm ready to part with it. It's been good to me - but the iPhone just looks too cool to pass up!

Best phone i've ever had.

I get work done in the car, anywhere i wait.. sure edge is slow. but it's decent enough to do the job.
Browsing is awesome.. overall interface is osx.. nuff said..

If you want to actually enjoy your phone, not fumble to figure out how shit works.. you should try it out.

People who don't like the iPhone, don't have one.
