How many of you know The Secret?
i have to admit i am skeptical of stuff like that, but i listened to about half the audio book and it is relevant information. a lot of it is logic. its based on the law of attraction and makes some valid points. like any other motivational media, i take what i want from it and throw away the fanaticism part of it. if you have an open mind, check it out. its worth the 4.95 for the download.
the dvd is 35 bucks and the audio book 20. www.thesecret.tv if i help change your life i want %2 of your future income that you make because of it. honor system. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh |

I think it's a great way to stay optimistic. But with all things, if you don't work for it, it's not gonna magically appear. |

i have quite a few motivational books and have been to some pretty pricey seminars like Zig Ziglar. bryan tracey is another guy that keeps me motivated. like you said, if you don't put forth the energy and stay positive and aggressive with your life you won't value the media as it is intended to be. it takes extreme focus and the books and stuff are merely a motivator not a magic spell. :thumbsup |
Remain skeptical... The Secret only worked for the ones that made this "metaphysical infomercial" about things you've already know.
|
"You are what you eat." "What you give is what you get" "You reap what you sew."
The secret is pie. |
There is a little stop and rob here in the neighborhood. The guy that opened it, had the hours from 7am to 10pm weeknights, and friday and sat 7am till midnight. Sunday 7:30 till 10pm. He built a nice clientel and finally sold the place. The new owners can not figure out why they are not making the money he was.
On reason. I went down there this am for some eggs, and at 8:05am they were not open. They will close about 7 or 7:30pm. but I never know when. |
I am looking for it now. Sound good.
|
I read the book and it's pretty cool.....It works very well but I have always live but the laws of carma so the two kind of are sisters.
|
It's hard for me to completely get into it, but I am trying to be more positive and think of the outcomes and work towards it rather than just sitting back and wanting.
|
Even if you are the biggest skeptic of the book it will help you in at least one way. I would recommend everyone listen to the audiobook as it will help you.

Well, said. I enjoy watching that DVD once in a while. I totally agree with the Law of Attraction myself. Making it work for you takes discipline and dedication however. |
I know the secret = the secret is that book is stupid!
|
yah, like i said. the law of attraction basically is logic based. it is logical to believe that if you are negative and 100% have negative thoughts, of course you will attract negative things in your life. if you are positive and always thinking positive things, you will attain greatness because you attract positive things.
one person who is a great example of this is Halcyon. the guy emanates positivity. his life is happy. he is happy with himself and attracts positivity. |
It's been recommended to me by a few different friends... that, and the follow-up book (or was it the prequel?).
People that know me tell me that they're sure I'd enjoy it. But I've never been much one for reading about other people's paths to enlightenment - at least when presented in a "follow me" sense - I'd much rather find my own. |
It's pretty lame in my opinion, sure your life takes you where you want it to go if you want it badly enough, but events based solely on chance will not happen just because you thought of it (parking ticket for example)...
|
that nonsense is another 'trendy' thing I've noticed in the scottsdale area. It always appeals to the 30+ something housewives who have nothing else to look forward to.

use it for what its for.
its not gonna make you a billionaire because you read it. take away from it motivation. listening to it isn't going to make you a better person. you have to do that on your own. tools are only as valuable as their application to a task. if you want to be positive you have to do that. no book can do that, but it is a tool. :) take what helps you and toss the rest in the recycle bin of your brain. |
i have it on on dvd
great principles and i admit i need to work it more into my life I know people who swear by it and their lives are amazing |
I knew _The Secret_ long before watching that movie. Now it's become a "fad", with every idiot running around saying he knows the secret of life, it's just not really worth mentioning.
Like 5 years ago or so, I started noticing, that if I am really focused on getting something, and REALLY want it, as in think about it all the time, circumstances somehow appeal to my desires and make it happen, not that I don't do anything for it. I wrote a whole article on this subject (not in english though), basically what it came to was the reason Religion was born. One is obviously to explain where life came from, second is that when people pray, they ask their _god_ for stuff and keep on asking _him_ for that. If they keep being motivated enough, people attract the stuff they want. There had been some really crazy shit in my life, you wouldn't believe me if I told you, but when things looked pretty much impossible, I stayed focused and _attracted_ (omg, that sounds so stupid doesn't it?) what I wanted, and eventually it happened. But now that it's a fad, I don't really feel like talking about it. My friends were like - hey you really believe that shit? After I reply that that shit is the reason why I have everything I ever dreamed about, they think I'm an idiot making fun of them. |

yah, pretty much. i was lucky to be born with my motivation and crazyness so this kinda thing just reinforces that. the couch potatoes around the world rejoiced when this secret thing got trendy, but 90% of them are back on the couch already watching soaps and eating bon bons. many people don't get that inside each of them is the secret and no book or anything will bring it out if you can't do it yourself and desire the things you want. |
they don't want me to know the secret
|
the secret = dont work for anything, just wish
yeah, right although i do believe in the power of postive thinking, you still need to do work to make shit happen. if you sit on your ass at home and wish for things, the odds of them coming true are close to nil |
wonderfully executed viral marketing strategy to sell their psychological snake oil. The success of it only feeds the irrational concepts... the author / marketers have now been brainwashed by their own propaganda - kind of sad, really.
|
Oops, forgot this one: "If you dont have anything good to say, dont say anything at all."
All of this stuff used to be instilled in every single child ever born for generations it seems. Hopefully it still is, then again if it was then there would be no market for this :) Either that, or people dont believe there is value in handed down wisdom. |
Think and grow rich ...
|
The best motivational book I have ever read is "How to Win Friends and Influence People" written by Dale Carnegie. The book was written back in 1936 and it's great.

Some of my friends that saw it told me it was complete bullshit.
They started selling the DVDs very expensive down here in Brazil, almost $100 each, Now they are pretty much everywhere. Unless someone borrows me their copy I probably won't be watching it... |

people also need to think of physics which are proven. for every action there is an equal or or opposite reaction. without actions there are no accomplishments. period. :thumbsup |

as a viral marketer/promoter i give them a lot of credit and congrats. i have no problems kicking in 14.95 to reward a successful marketing campaign. kudos to them. they found the angle and exploited it. |

i guess my point is if the thoughts don't cause you to take actions, you will see no progress. essentially, you are 100% correct. meowwwwwww. |
Things like this are what you make it

lol.. i'll take that but yeah, the video is good to hype you up and shit, but without actually DOING anything, you wont get anything. the video makes it seem like that all you need to do is wish and you shall receive. |

with as motivated as i am i don't need this stuff but i had to sample it to see what all the hype is about. it seems just that after the first hour and half of the audio book. great motivational stuff but by all means not a secret spell to wealth. that requires hard work and determination. :thumbsup |

The Secret's formula: Ask, Believe, Receive. It's that simple, folks!
The author claims that she used to have weight problems, and no diet would work. Finally she learned The Secret, gave up dieting, and instead just avoided fat people and the fat thoughts they bring. Now she can eat junk food all day and not gain weight. One man in the book claims that when he's driving somewhere with a busy parking lot, he just visualizes and empty space. Since he learned The Secret, he hasn't had to drive around looking for parking since. It just appears via the Law of Attraction. This is a recipe for failure. Believing you can accomplish things... absolutely worthwhile. Believing you don't need to work for it... good luck with that. The commercial for this thing even says "Unexpected checks will come in your mail." |
Here's the secret:
Oprah Winfrey and any of those chicks she has on her show are mostly delusional and completely out of touch with reality. And they want your money. There... I saved you twenty bucks. :1orglaugh |

When I was 16 years old I read a similar book but it was based on Metaphysics. Same basic principle though, if you want something then it's out there for you all you have to do is call it to you and know that it will happen. It actually worked for me even so many years ago. Tough part is with the world being so negative, you quickly forget about it. It's hard to stay positive when the people around you that have not read a book like this or simply don't believe in it are constantly negative without even realizing that they are.
It takes discipline but if you can do it and constantly practice it, it can really change your life. :2 cents: |
I dunno about any of that.
It sounds like a cheap way to delude yourself. It slike "Hey think positive and good things will happen!" I been alive long enough now that it is not just that simple. Sure working for something and taking steps to accomplish them oughtah be the basic and most logical principal a person can have. But fooling yourself into a life of denial can certainly lead to seirous problems. The Secret is essentially a no brainer. |
I goto give prop's to good marketing for this book though:)
Telling stupid poor and powerless people there is hope is certainly going to be a best seller. Especially in these times. It worked for Organised religeon, why not a Basic Philosophy book for some fast cash... Excellent idea! |
