Webmastering 101: Using thumbed table ads to filter traffic and make money

Just like last week when I spoke about making money with SEO pages aka One Page Wonders, a lot of this will be far from new for people that have been around for a while. However, it is easy to forget that there are a lot of people that are still pretty new and may have skipped over some of the older techniques.

Just because a technique used by adult webmasters has been around for a long time doesn't mean it doesn't still work and sometimes you can give them a bit of a more modern twist.

So, this time I am talking about how to use table ads on your pages to filter traffic and make some money.

To takes things from a very basic level, table ads are more or less exactly as they sound. They are small tables that are used to make adverts for sites. Traditionally, they were made up of a series of text links in the table and placed at the bottom of a page.

For the version of table ads that I am talking about I will be switching from using text links to making use of hosted thumbs to make my table ads a bit more visually appealing. Max Cash has 88x88 hosted thumbs to match each of our hosted movie galleries and we allow those hosted thumbs to be used independently from the galleries. So, they are going to be perfect for making my thumbed table ads.

You can see examples of the sort of table ads I am making with the hosted thumbs at http://www.emailerotica.com/images/s...table_ads.html . As with always, you can no doubt make things look better and use better colours, etc. They are just up there to give an idea.

Anyway, this is a quick guide to the process I go through when putting together a thumbed table ad.

#1 The first thing I need to decide is what sort of theme I am going to have for my table ad. I generally deal with two different kinds of table ads.

The first is a table ad where all the sites I am going to push in the table ad are in this same niche. These are the type of table ad I use on sites that are strongly aimed towards one theme. So, if I am going to but a thumbed table ad on a lesbian site then I am going to just promote lesbian sites in my table ad.

The second type of table ad is one where the sites I am going to push in the table are from a mixture of niches. Generally, I use these types of thumbed table ads on sites that are more general such as perhaps just hardcore sites or one that covers a bunch of niches such as a hub site or something.

For the purposes of this example I am deciding to do a niche specific table ad.

#2 Once I have decided on doing a niche specific table ad I log into my sponsor - in this case Max Cash - and see what sites they have in the niche I want to build the table to promote. I am going to use my niche thumbed table ad on a teen themed site. I look around and see that Max Cash has three different teen sites.

So, from that I decided that I am going to make my table a simple one with one row and three columns. Again, you can see an example at http://www.emailerotica.com/images/s...table_ads.html .

#3 Now that I know what niche I am going to promote and which sites, I then go into the hosted gallery section of the Max Cash affiliate area and pick out one hosted gallery for each teen site I am going to promote. Then I find the 88x88 hosted thumb that matches those galleries.

#4 Then I simply plug the thumbs into the table, link each one directly to the site they promote and them put a small - two or three word - text link under the thumb also linked to the site.

That really is it as far as building the thumb table ads go. You can also see an example of the multi-niche table ads at http://www.emailerotica.com/images/s...table_ads.html .

These thumbed table ads can be used pretty much anywhere that you have room just to filter your traffic that bit more. This is especially true with the multi-niche table ads. You could easily build ones with your own content to move traffic around from your more general hardcore sites to more specific niche sites you run. I do that but I also like to throw up sponsor ones like these to get some more direct money out of the table ads.

Another way that I have been using these thumbed table ads as of late, are on my blogs. I just stick one in the footer area of my blog and give those blog surfers something to click on and join.

I also have been known to put a few up on the "one page wonder" SEO pages I talked about last week. Really the key is, wherever you can - do.

So, I hope this proves helpful to some folks and if you are going to give it a try I would love you to try it with the Max Cash hosted thumbs. I would be more than happy to assist in any way that I can.

Very interesting! I'll see if I can incorporate this into my sites. As a noob, I thank you. :)

Another great thread Sarah :thumbsup

Why does this work?

When I see this or people doing this, I never am tempted to click on it or have anything to do with them, I'm more likely to leave the site all together figuring I just found a website from the early 1990's.

Well, firstly if you are a webmaster you aren't the average surfer. Secondly, I don't know why it works, I just know that I still get clicks on these and more importantly, sales. When it comes down to it why do banners work? I don't know why but they do.

You should write a post about "Link Baiting 101" ;)

Seriously, any and all good tips are more than welcome - lord knows this board needs more of these!

I *try* I should say to stick with things and subjects that I like and do pretty well if I put myself in the surfers shoes, but perhaps your right, I'm certainly going to try it out and revisit it on a few of my sites. :upsidedow

LOL, thanks..the thing is that when you do a lot of affiliate support for a big program like Max Cash you get to understand that there are still a ton of new webmasters coming into the industry. Yet, nearly every tutorial I read that covers the basic basic stuff was written in the 90's. Even with simple things like these table ads, the concept may be the same as it was back then but the larger game is different. Plus, I figured if I was starting and the only tutorials I was finding were from the last millennium it might put me off a bit.

I am toying with the idea of sticking this stuff up on a blog when I get enough and the motivation.

Trust me, after this long of working in the industry I don't know many technique that could lure me into clicking things without me knowing what is going on when I click them. However, all I need to do is think of people like my mom (not that she would be surfing porn) who is a PHD educated woman but still clicks on every darn link that comes to her in email.

The only things being recycled of sorts is the topics but that is only because they do still work (I have never really stopped using them) but everything written about them is so old. So, why not write things that introduce the tried and true type concepts to today's new webmasters?

Sarah_Jayne 08-15-2007 12:58 PM

Looks like I will be blogging this stuff soon. Will be odd to have a blog that doesn't have a bunch of tits on it.

DDGcash 08-15-2007 01:19 PM

Nice Info:thumbsup

Emil 08-15-2007 01:23 PM

Is there any sponsor that got ready made pages like these with a lot more niches on them?

I just want to bump all my shitty SEO-traffic there...

halfpint 08-15-2007 01:43 PM

Similar to a tgp? Well, I guess in that I am using three to six hosted thumbnails but it is jut a table that I add to other pages and the thumbs link directly to the paysites and not galleries.
