Tomorrow is my son's surgery at Sick Kid's Hospital

Been donating monthly to the place for a while now.... never thought I'd actually have to go there though.

It's nothing overly major really, but my son will be undergoing surgery for a hernia.

So I won't be on icq or msn for the next few days... but I may get to emails at some point.

Have fun while I'm gone GFY :thumbsup

I had one and had it removed around the same age. I still remember being wheeled into the elevator and my parents waving.

who 08-13-2007 06:42 PM

I'm drunk, does that help?

baddog 08-13-2007 06:43 PM

Good luck, but I have a question.

I remember when my son was just a few months old they said he got a hernia from trying to stand up too early. There was no surgery required, they just told us to stop encouraging him to stand for a while.

Do they know how your son got his hernia, and how did it get severe enough to require surgery?

Aussie Rebel 08-13-2007 06:47 PM

I hope everything goes well with your sons op, good luck

Blue Eyes 08-13-2007 06:47 PM

Good luck buddy! Most of your luck to your son!

Cameron has an Inguinal Hernia which, in the case of children, is mostly found in boys who grow very quickly.

In Cameron's case, he was the size of a 4 year old at 1.5 years. Basically his internal organs develop and grow faster than what his abdominal wall is able to hold in.

The doctor said that in cases like this, even after the surgery there's a 10% chance that he'll end up with another hernia on the other side as a result from the added pressure to that side once this side is sealed closed.
We're hoping to be in the 90% group.

make sure u get a good cup of coffee at Starbucks downstairs in the main lobby then head back up to wait in the room. My son was there not to long ago and they are great. Ask the dr in the morning idf u can be with him as they take him to put him under, thats what i did. And i felt much better.
They are angels in that place.
Good Luck

Yeah, already asked and he said that I can be with him right up until he's under. They really are great there.
There's no where I'd rather be taking him.

jaysmoke 08-13-2007 07:27 PM

Well try not to worry too much. And look in my sig and take my email or ICQ and let me know how he is once u get him home and resting.
And welcome to the special club of dads that have taken that long walk down the hall to the OR with our sons and daughters.
Good Luck
Jay

Its a fairly straight forward procedure. I'm sure he'll be up and well a couple of days after the surgery.
