i just dont see recording hd content to an SD card
http://focuscamera.com/sc/froogle-le...id =625464321
get that
it is HD
3CCD
and has a 60 gig built in HD

only thing i really hate about these HDD camera's is the storage of the videos after you want it off the camera :(

1 hr record time on a 4GB card and lets remember I have taken 0 hours of video in my life so far!! :P

"Panasonic included Optical Image Stabilization and takes advantage of SDHC memory card technology to give you the ability to capture up to one hour of 1080i on a 4GB SDHC card (included)."

Chris 08-13-2007 11:30 AM

may i ask why you want the HD for personal use?
i would think a basic 3c camera would work perfectly and have flawless video

because if I am going to buy a camera I will keep it for a few years so I might as well get HD.

1 hr of 1080i

google "3ccd vs HD"
and see what others think

Tat2Jr 08-13-2007 11:39 AM

I have that camera, and actually shoot content on it. Great for web "HD", and downconverting to DVD. The 720p WMVs look awesome. With the 4GB card included you get about 40 minutes of content shot in the highest quality. Haven't tried any other setttings then highest. I've got an 8 GB card, and an extra battery. 80 minutes of video (highest quality). Battery only lasts about 40 minutes, so plan on an extra.

One warning. AVCHD can be a BITCH to edit. I had to dump Premiere and get Ulead Video Studio 11+ to editi these. Work arounds and stuff, but I've got it down now. Just know that your normal editing workflow will most likely not work.

Never tried Vegas. Stuck with Premiere 6.5. Bought Premiere Pro 1.5 and fiddled with it for a couple weeks, but went back to 6.5 since I wasn't shooting in HD. Just a warning. Sony Vegas only supports Sony's version of AVCHD, not panasonic's or canon's version (yet).

Video Studio is alright, but after using Premiere it feels like a toy (which it is).

From what I understand I can edit it in imovie on the mac. Not sure if I will ever edit anything but who knows. This will be a new toy for me. Thanks for the tips on getting an extra battery.

It's very cute. Too cute. :( It's embarrassing shooting content with it. It's so tiny when it's on my pro tripod. But I can't argue with the content it shoots. My VX2100 is going to be put up for sale soon I think.

crockett 08-13-2007 11:49 AM

Try this one, it's a little more but much better..

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1991067,00.asp

records to minDV's as well.

I know of at least one program that shoots their HD video with it.

DateDoc 08-13-2007 12:05 PM

I ordered the Panasonic. It will be here Weds or Thurs (probably Thurs as it is 3PM in NY).

Are you sure? Tat2Jr has the cam and gets 40 mins on a 4GB card using the highest quality. Lower setting will record more......

Yes, iMovie can handle HDV content no problem.

Anything is possible I guess, but they must be doing some sort of freaky compression on it.

venus 08-13-2007 02:00 PM

Don't know about the camera you are looking at, I have the
Canon XH A1 and I dont know if I was just expecting to much or what, but I should have gone with the Canon XL2 (which I rented once and really liked its quality).

You do get 40 mins. of "HD" on a 4GB card, and they DO use some sort of freaky compression on it. It's called AVCHD.

Steve Awesome 08-13-2007 02:15 PM

AVHCD compression is O.K. but you will notice some compression artifacts if you have a highly complex moving subject on-screen.

I had a Canon XL2 and it was a heavy bastard.... I shoot with a GL2 now and get very comparable results.

I am looking at the HVX-200 as my next option.
