Reputation system for GFY

What do you guys think of a reputation system on GFY.

Some other forums I visit have it, the system is very simple whenever someone posts you can give the user one positive or negative reputation point.

What do you guys think?

(BTW make sure you have a turing verification or in no time all the bots will have one million reputation points)

Klen 08-12-2007 06:19 PM

That's a good thing but people would probaly try to exploit it

Deej 08-12-2007 06:20 PM

I was going to make a thread about juicy's Sig

about hurting lil peoples feelers...but then, I didnt wanna make juicy cry in his pie...

There's one clear benefit: someone who only spends his time mindlessly insulting others and never makes useless posts would be easily identified.

RawAlex 08-12-2007 06:48 PM

Oh yeah... let's give the bros a simple system to blow each other in public. Sounds good.

Even disagreeable people deserve to be heard as their point of view deserves consideration.

Anything that could be used to filter the debate or lessen the perceived value of someone's speech is a bad thing.

I'd have to vote against a rating system that is based on likes and dislikes as it would be too easy to manipulate and would discount peoples' speech without them being able to debated the negative votes.

:disgustWayyy tooo high school.:disgust

My "system" has always been to take a look at a person's homepage. If they don't have one, or it has an affiliate code in it then I look at that the same way as I look at a hotmail account. Same with the "sig": affiliate code= small, or people worrying about "page views" on a webmaster forum. None of it denotes much seriousness to me. But that's just my viewpoint.

Just what the servers need . . . . more processes.

On some boards (some SEO forums, for example) reputation helps guide who's opinions and advice are more authoritative and I've seen it can work. However, GFY is a different beast and I don't see much value - this is not a help board, it's an everything board.

"Stand up" guys will get huge rep votes even if they've seldom, or ever, given any actual insight, advice or help. More than any other board, it would be a popularity contest and rep would have little value beyond that.

calibra 08-12-2007 10:57 PM

The more posts you have, the higher your reputation should be.

No fucking way!

First because, this bro shit will rep each other and get thousands rep points.

Second, I don't want even more slower gfy ..

Third, you have no fucking knowledge how reps work .. thats why you proposing image verification.

Fap 08-13-2007 12:25 AM

still not 100% sure how it works

Matt 26z 08-13-2007 12:34 AM

I'd like to see something else here even better..... Some forums have a feature where if a particular reply gets too many negative votes, it won't show anymore unless you click a button to see it. This would seriously harm the sigwhores.

ServerGenius 08-13-2007 01:24 AM

Great idea......would be even better if upon registration for the board people
have to proof they're actually working in this industry instead of just being
surfers by trade before they're account is approved....that would clean up
this place. :2 cents:

though this would never happen.....at least not here

Young 08-13-2007 01:30 AM

it would be abused.

it'd never work here.

people would get too self conscious about posting and GFY would lose some of its flavour.

Better to have a score for USERS in terms of "business men and paymasters" as opposed to posters and POSTS. This way reliable business people will get good reputations and be considered trusted

CyberHustler 08-13-2007 01:45 AM

I think it's worth at least a 30 day test run just to see...

Zester 08-13-2007 03:43 AM

i got 2 words for you: "fake nicks"
